Department of Social Development Marks International Day of Families in Lillydale

​LILLYDALE — The Department of Social Development, in collaboration with local stakeholders, is commemorating the International Day of Families today, 19 June 2026, in Lillydale.

​This year’s observance is held under the theme, “Families, Inequality and Child Well-Being,” highlighting the department’s commitment to addressing the socio-economic challenges faced by households across the province.

​Recognizing families as the foundational unit of care, protection, and socialisation, the department aims to use today’s event to foster stronger, more resilient communities.
The initiative targets vulnerable households, parents, caregivers, and local civil society organisations, focusing on enhancing parenting support and improving developmental outcomes for children and adolescents.

​The programme, which follows a series of build-up activities held yesterday, seeks to empower the youth with essential life skills and better decision-making capabilities, reinforcing the role of the family structure in the holistic development of children.
