A 36-year-old Pretoria Metro Police Department (TMPD) officer, Peter Nonyane (also known as “Lamasweet” or “Greater Gagash”), appeared in the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 17 August 2026, facing fraud and money-laundering charges.

He was arrested in Pretoria on Friday by the Hawks’ Serious Commercial Crime Investigation unit. Investigators allege that roughly R1.75 million was illegally withdrawn from a deceased estate’s bank account. About R1.65 million of that sum was used to purchase a pre-owned Mercedes-Benz AMG G63 from a Pretoria dealership, allegedly to the disadvantage of the estate’s rightful beneficiaries.

A second suspect — reported to be his wife, a lawyer who is said to have authorised the transfer — is still at large and is being sought by police.
