“When Mbokazi arrived late in the Bafana Bafana camp ahead of AFCON, the most important tournament on the African continent, I was incredibly angry.

I was worried because I could see how things might go wrong. It would be a great waste if Mbokazi did not pursue the career he has been blessed with due to a lack of proper guidance and discipline.

I acknowledge that my choice of words was not right, and for that I sincerely apologise.

But I want to make it very clear — I never, and I repeat, I never intended to make a racist or sexist comment.

I am neither a racist nor a sexist.

My comments came from a place of concern as a coach who wants the best for his players and the national team. I believe in discipline, professionalism, and supporting players so they can reach their full potential, both on and off the field.

I thank everyone for allowing me the opportunity to clarify my position and to address this matter openly.”
