At 21, Dr. Thakgalo Thibela Becomes South Africa’s Youngest Doctor

Dr. Thakgalo Thibela from a village in Bushbuckridge, Mpumalanga (Violet Bank area), became one of South Africa’s youngest doctors, specifically recognized as the youngest female medical doctor in the country at age 21.

She matriculated at age 15 (in 2015) with 7 distinctions. She started studying medicine at the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) at age 16 on an IDC bursary. She graduated with her MBChB (Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery)
