NUM Youth Structure Convenes Strategic Planning Session to Shape 2026 Agenda
The National Union of Mineworkers Youth Structure (NUMYS) officially launched its three-day Strategic Planning session today at the Blueberry Hotel. running from January 22 to 24, 2026, the summit brings together emerging leaders from all 11 NUM regions to chart the organisation’s roadmap for the coming year.
The session serves as a critical platform for young leaders to align their objectives and strengthen the union's influence within the mining, energy, and construction and metal sectors.
Strategic Collaboration Across NUM Entities
To ensure a comprehensive approach to youth development and economic empowerment, the planning session features high-level contributions from the union's primary investment and educational arms. Representatives from the following entities are in attendance to provide strategic insight:
Financial & Investment: Mineworkers Investment Trust (MIT) and Mineworkers Investment Company (MIC).
Property & Development: NUM Property and the Mineworkers Development Agency (MDA).
Research & Education: Sam Tambani Research Institute (SATRI) and the Elijah Barayi Memorial Training Centre (EBMTC).
Mapping the Future
The primary objective of this three-day engagement is to "map out" the 2026 fiscal and operational year. By integrating research from SATRI and training initiatives from EBMTC, the Youth Structure aims to address the evolving challenges faced by young workers, focusing on job security, skills acquisition, and sustainable economic participation.
"The involvement of our regional leaders and strategic entities ensures that our 2026 agenda is not just a vision, but a practical, well-resourced plan of action," said Xolani Mkhabela, NUM Youth Structure National Secretary.
