🏎️ When a Road Car Was Too Dangerous for F1...

In 1994, GT1 racing was pure chaos. Teams spent millions hacking apart heavy road cars just to stay competitive. Then came Gordon Murray.

Before building the iconic McLaren F1, Murray was Formula 1’s ultimate disruptor—like when he bolted a giant suction fan to Niki Lauda’s Brabham BT46B, dominating so hard the car was instantly banned.

When Murray later created the McLaren F1, he built it purely as a road car with a central driving seat, a gold-leaf insulated BMW V12, and a carbon monocoque chassis. He swore it would never race. The problem? He accidentally engineered a road car that was secretly a lethal race car underneath, forcing privateers to turn his masterpiece into the ultimate track weapon.
