Wait… before I batcha and go sleep 😴 💤

You’re only as good as your team, and, in radio, sometimes only as good as your last show.🎤🎧

I was invited to attend a 3day conference in JHB. I am also currently hosting VOC Breakfast, and did not want either of my responsibilities to be disadvantaged in any way. So, we made it work, and brought VOC Breakfast live from Rosebank, JHB.

None of this would have been possible without the commitment, professionalism and support of the team behind the scenes.

Thank you to our News Editor, Aneeqa Du Plessis, to producer Rageemah McLean, whose efficiency, production support and time-keeping made the show flow so smoothly (could not have done this without you); and to Lee-Yandra Paulsen, who fitted in so naturally and brought listeners the latest news.

To Fasiegh Petersen, Faldie Van De Lilly, and our controllers Layth Morton, Raafiq Hendricks and Zahier Abrahams, thank you for the odd-hours, the technical checks, and ultimately the flawless ex*****on. Whatever people heard over the 3 days, could not have been possible without you. Well done, team. I am truly grateful.

To hyatthouserosebank, thank you for hosting us so warmly. The service was excellent, I genuinely appreciated the quiet moments, great food, and funky coffee at almost any time of the day. I would gladly recommend this venue to anyone travelling to JHB, or even CPT.

Apart from the very interesting conference, of which you will hear of soon, one of the highlights of the trip was also meeting up again with Ponty from Salaamedia. He took me around their studios, and I must say, it is an absolutely beautiful space. It is always inspiring to connect with others in the media space.

Shukran to everyone who helped make it possible.

Wait… before I batcha and go sleep 💤 😴

I need YOU to celebrate with me 😊

My dearest Inshaaf,

Today marks 22 years of love, patience, sacrifice, growth, laughter, challenges, and memories that I would choose over and over again.

You have been my rock, my heart, and the safest place for mine. Through every season of life, through every test and every blessing, you have stood by me with a love that I can never take for granted.

Four kids later, and my heart still belongs to you. I continue to love you, not only for who you are, but for the way you have loved me, supported me, understood me, and carried so much with grace.

Thank you for loving me.

Thank you for sharing me with the community, even when it meant sacrificing time that should have been yours.

Thank you for understanding the demands of my work, my responsibilities, and my studies.

Thank you for allowing me the space to navigate my journey, while still holding our home, our family, and my heart together.

After 22 years, I can say this with certainty, my heart is safe with you.

I love you deeply my love. And if I had to do it all over again, I would choose you, again and again and again.

Happy anniversary, my love.

PS… these are some of my favourite pics 😊

Wait… before I batcha and go sleep 😴 💤

I’ve been doing some introspection lately, and I’m taking a bit of a long shot here, so your thoughts, & guidance are welcomed.

Allah blessed each of us with skills, talents and qualifications. We use them to put bread on the table, but they were also given to us so that we may uplift, empower and serve others.

For me, my skills are in communication, media broadcasting, compliance, and labour law. These are areas I have grown in over many years, not because I know everything, I made the mistakes, learnt the lessons, and gained some experience along the way.

So this is not about creating a bandwagon. But if you have a skill and feel you can contribute, then by all means, tag along.

I would love to dedicate some of my time and services to communities across the City.

One area close to my heart is radio broadcasting. I would like to host basic presentation workshops for presenter hopefuls, and anyone who has a passion for the microphone. Radio is such a beautiful, powerful and intimate medium. It connects one voice to thousands of hearts. While I can’t promise anyone a job, I can certainly share what I know and help people prepare themselves for the next stage.

Another area is labour law. There are many people who are unfairly treated at work, dismissed without understanding their rights, or kept on fixed-term contracts for years without clarity. Many do not know where to start, who to speak to, or what steps to take. Again, I cannot promise anyone their job back, but I can certainly help point people in the right direction and offer some basic guidance.

Honestly, what is the use of having skills, knowledge and experience if it is never shared, especially with those who need it most?

So, what are your thoughts? Where should I start? What communities or groups would benefit from this? What other skills should be brought into this space?

Maybe this is just a small idea. But sometimes small ideas, with the right intention, can become something meaningful.

May Allah / God place barakah in it if it is good. ゚viralシ ✨

Wait… before I batcha and go sleep 😴 💤

Eid ul-Adha was a beautiful celebration, but more than that, it was a reminder of sacrifice, sincerity, service and the small moments that bring us back to what really matters.

Being on radio, we don’t always realise the impact we have on people. In my view, radio has always been an intimate companion to the listener. Maybe it doesn’t always feel that way anymore, but it should.

On Eid, I had the honour of meeting Munier and Thaafir Norton, two visually impaired brothers who spent the day moving from place to place with their brother, assisting with Qurbaani. Their Takbir brought so much feeling and emotion to the day.

Later, when I was introduced to them, I was completely humbled. The appreciation they had for radio was unbelievable. They could repeat, word for word, things I had said on air. They knew the presenters, asked about programmes, and even remembered my boring jokes 🤣, and still laughed loudly while repeating them.

In that moment, I realised again the power of radio. We speak into one microphone, but thousands may be listening. Sometimes, we may never know where that voice lands, or whose day it touches.

And SubghanAllah, out of everything they could have asked for, they asked for more Naseegha programmes. That says so much about the circles they move in. No excuses. No pity. Just living with confidence, dignity and in the remembrance of Allah.

They will be coming to the studio next week for the Thikr, Insha-Allah, and I am truly looking forward to it.

I am humbled to have met them. They are visually impaired, but they carry themselves with such confidence and warmth, and that is something I will always remember.

May Allah make it easy for them, bless them, protect them, and increase them in goodness.

I am absolutely delighted to have Munier and Thaafir as part of the VOC Breakfast family — weekdays from 6am to 9am. PS… I was more excited for the pic 😎 show them some love! Share…

Wait… before I batcha and go sleep 😴 💤

This morning, Ragheema and I were busy sorting out our show during a commercial break. The mics were muted, and we were trying to keep everything flowing during a very tight programme.

Suddenly, the receptionist walked into the studio and said there was someone who wanted to meet me. As you know, I can be quite shy ☺️, so my first response was that I could not come out because we were in the middle of a busy show.

But, I quickly adjusted the running order, to buy some time, and to meet them. To my surprise, they had brought me this beautiful cake.🎂

I was told that Yusraa and her team were asked to make it for me as a gesture from an ardent listener who wishes to remain anonymous. The only message from the listener was that they wanted duas, and that they had noticed the work being done in the community.

That moment genuinely touched me.🥲

Sometimes, when you are behind the mic, it feels like it is just a red light, headphones, buttons, scripts, timing, and a voice going out into the air. You know there are hundreds and thousands of listeners, but you do not always know where the impact lands.

And then Allah sends a small reminder.

Eid ul-Adha teaches us about sacrifice, sincerity, service, and justice. Justice is not only what happens in courts or institutions. Justice is also about caring for people, recognising others, feeding the needy, uplifting communities, and doing what is right even when nobody is watching.

This simple gesture reminded me that the work we do must always be for a higher purpose. Not for praise. Not for attention. But to serve, to connect, and to use whatever platform Allah has given us to bring benefit to others.

To the anonymous listener, may Allah accept your duas, your intentions, and your kindness. May He grant you barakah, rizq, good health, and ease in all your affairs.

To Yusraa and her team, thank you for the beautiful cake and the love that came with it.

And to every listener who continues to support, encourage, advise, and make dua for us: thank you. You are the reason we keep going.

Eid Mubarak to everyone. May this Eid bring justice, mercy, compassion, and unity into our homes and communities.

Wait.. before I batcha and go sleep 💤 😴

Those who know me will know that I am a very picky eater.

I like consistency. I find something I trust on a menu and I stick to it.

My wife, on the other hand, is an explorer. She can go to the same place five times and order five different things. I call that risky behaviour.

So, for the first time, she suggested that I take her to Shakes n Cakes in Goodwood.

I frowned.

But because I am a good husband, and because sometimes peace in the home is more important than personal food principles, I took her. 🙄🤣

The place is quite strategically situated on Voortrekker Road, opposite Midas, if I’m not mistaken. I waited in the car because standing around is not one of my spiritual gifts.

While waiting, I noticed people arriving, hovering, standing in line, and waiting for their orders. At first, I thought: “No man, I’m not doing this.” I don’t do long queues.

But then I realised there is actually a proper system. Those who placed telephone orders were moving quickly, and my wife was in and out in about 10 minutes. The rest were waiting for their order numbers to be called. Organised chaos, but organised nonetheless.

We ordered hotdogs and cheesecake.

Now, my wife knows very well that I only eat hotdogs from that one place in Belgravia. So, naturally, I approached this hotdog with suspicion!

But wow… I was pleasantly surprised. 🌭

The Vienna, chips and roll were fresh, neatly wrapped, and well presented. The quality was excellent. The only thing for me was that the spice was a little stronger than I usually prefer — but that did not take away from the overall experience.

Hotdog rating: 9/10. Would I go back for it? Absolutely!

Then came the cheesecake.

Again, my wife knows I usually only eat cake from that one place in Woodstock. I have standards. I have history. I have loyalty.

But this cheesecake? Yoh. 🍰

The texture, the flavour, the chocolate topping, everything was in its place. It was smooth, rich, balanced, and honestly mouthwatering. I actually wanted more, but by then it was too late to go back.

Cheesecake rating: 10/10.
No notes. No complaints. Just respect.

What I also appreciated was how efficient the telephone order system was. No unnecessary waiting, no confusion, no “boss, it’s almost ready” for 45 minutes. As an impatient person, I respect that.

So, will I go back? Absolutely. Will I recommend it? Absolutely. Will my wife now use this review against me the next time she wants me to try a new place? Also absolutely.

But credit where it is due: Shakes and Cakes in Goodwood impressed me.

Let’s support our small businesses. Sometimes, they really do surprise you, even when you’re sitting in the car judging the whole operation from the driver’s seat.

[these are my views and don’t represent that of any organisation I’m associated with! And… this is not a paid for review]

Wait… before I batcha and go sleep 😴 💤

This is going to pinch a bit… but deep breath!

For as long as I can remember, every time someone tries to do something good, it is often their “OWN” people who make it difficult.

Instead of support, there is suspicion and division.
Instead of asking, “How can we help?” we ask, “Who gave them permission?” Instead of building together, we break each other down.

Brothers turn against brothers. Sisters stop speaking to each other. Families become divided. Communities become split. Then, instead of resolving matters with wisdom, sincerity and goodwill, we rush to mediators, lawyers, courts and secular processes, not because justice is always needed, but because our hearts have become too hard to sit together and speak honestly.

A building stands empty for years. A piece of land lies dormant. Nothing happens. The community complains. The youth have no space. Then, when a few people finally stand up and say, “Let us revive this place. Let us start something for the community, a mosque, a church, a community centre, a sports facility, a feeding scheme, a youth programme,” suddenly the criticism begins.

People who were silent for years suddenly have opinions. People who did nothing suddenly want control and find fault. People who never built anything suddenly become experts in destroying.

And while we argue, the community SUFFERS.

This same sickness shows itself in our daily lives. Nobody sells koesisters in the road for years. Then one aunty starts selling to make an honest living, and the next day another aunty starts selling right next to her, not because there was a plan, but because we cannot allow someone else to shine. Someone opens a small shop, and immediately the neighbour opens the same shop next door. Not to serve the community better, but because JEALOUSY has entered the heart.

We say we want unity and progress, but we fight the people who try to progress. We say we want upliftment, but we pull down those who rise.

This is the painful truth: too often, we are not destroyed by outsiders. WE DESTROY OURSELVES FROM WITHIN!!😢

We must learn to celebrate each other. We must learn to support good work, even when we are not leading it. We must learn that every initiative does not have to carry our name for it to have value. We must STOP confusing control with contribution. We must STOP making enemies out of people who are trying to serve.

If someone is doing good, support them. If you cannot support them, advise them respectfully. If you cannot advise them, make dua for them. And if you cannot even do that, then at least do not stand in their way.

Our communities do not need more jealousy. They do not need more politics. They do not need more backbiting, suspicion and division.

They need people with clean hearts and sincere intentions. They need people who understand that success for one person does not mean failure for another.

The time has come for us to ask ourselves honestly, are we helping our communities move forward, or are WE the VERY reason they remain stuck?

Because until we fix our hearts, we will continue to lose buildings, projects, businesses, relationships and opportunities, not because we had no potential, but because we could not stand to see each other succeed.

[These views a mine, and don’t represent any organisation I’m associated with]

Wait… I might not remember before I batcha and go sleep 😴 💤

Tomorrow I take in VOC Breakfast for a short period. All part of the butterflies, natural anxiety, and excitement, I popped in at Hairstudio for Adiel Adam and Kulsum Adams Abdurahman to top me up a notch… to have the face for radio 😎🤗… And, Kamaludien Antulay from Cosmo Fashions needed to check if the radio suits still fit… 😊🤗

On Saturday, I officially informed all of you. While finishing my research paper.

Today, Sunday, I wanted to recalibrate… I came to Diamond Peak Spur Steak Ranch, because it has the biggest play area in town, and I swear I could leave Isa on his own in the play area. Thank you and team for making it an awesome and safe experience.

Now I sit, by a fire… going through the many things we can talk about to kickstart the show.

What do you think will be the topic of discussion tomorrow as I take on the show?

Which “buttons” do I press?

Actually… Is there anything you would like us to chat about?

Wait… before I batcha and go sleep 💤 😴

Three years ago, I packed my headphones in bubble wrap, boxed them up, and tucked them away somewhere “safe”… went behind a desk (still am)

Well, this weekend I had to go digging, dust them off, plug them in and check if they still work. 😅

Because from Monday, 04 May, I’ll be allllll over your wireless on VOC Breakfast, 91.3FM. It will just be for a short while🔥

I’m nervous, excited, and ready for the early mornings again! I can’t wait to join your conversations, unpack the issues that matter, share a few laughs, and have some fun while we’re at it. So join me!!
