On the morning of Friday, August 4, 2023, I had a distressing encounter in Rugby, near Brooklyn Clinics in Milnerton, Cape Town South. An advanced woman approached me and requested a ride to two destinations. I accepted, as her final stop was in my area, and after working all night, I was relieved to have a trip heading home.
When I arrived at the pickup location, the woman got into the front seat, while an older man and a young guy entered the back. They were well-dressed and had a father/mother and son appearance. The woman asked me to drop them off at the first address and then take her to the second, and I agreed.
Upon reaching the first destination, the older man unexpectedly pointed a gun at my head and pulled the trigger. Fortunately, it didn’t fire. The woman then took my phone and all my belongings, including my jacket and the money I had earned that night. Interestingly, they noticed my house key on the jacket and ran back to return it to me, warning me not to cause any trouble. I thanked them, still in shock from the ordeal.
Since that day, I have been struggling with the trauma. Whenever I try to sleep, I hear the sound of the trigger and wake up in a panic, breathing rapidly. Over time, I have found some courage and faith to return to work, as I have bills to pay and responsibilities to fulfill. I am grateful that I was not harmed. I reported the incident to the police, but after spending hours at the station, I left without any resolution. I thank God for my safety, as many others may not have been as fortunate.
