Today is Linus Pauling day which is celebrated every year on his birthday 28 Feb.
He won a Nobel prize for chemistry in 1954 and is known for discovering the molecular cause for sickle-cell disease. He later won the Nobel peace prize in 1963 for his roll in getting the US, Great Britain and soviet union to sign a nuclear test ban treaty and his passion against nuclear arms.

Today is also Rare Disease day.
1 in 20 people live with a rare disease in their lifetime few of which see any sign for a cure.

The day is to improve knowledge of rare diseases while encouraging researchers and decision makers to address the needs of those living with rare diseases.
