"Ready or Not: Here I Come" is the Sequel We Wanted AND Deserved
Sequels often feel like a cash grab, but Ready or Not: Here I Come actually tries to do something new with the "Final Girl" mythology.
One of the most interesting takes was seeing Grace (Samara Weaving) wake up in a hospital facing the legal reality of the first film's bloodbath. We rarely see a horror movie address the "blame the survivor" angle, and it added a grounded weight to the beginning of the movie.
What worked:
The world-building in this sequel feels incredibly fresh, expanding the stakes by introducing the internal power struggles and conflicting rules of the different families fighting for dominance.
This energy is amplified by the new setting; moving the action to a wedding venue was a stroke of genius that allowed for some absolute comedy-horror gold, particularly a fight scene between Weaving and another wedding-dress-wearing character that is instantly unforgettable. While Kathryn Newton provides some interesting new depth to Grace’s history, the villains are the real standouts here - seeing horror royalty Sarah Michelle Gellar share a gentle, compelling, and surprisingly quiet moment with Samara Weaving in the midst of the chaos was a massive highlight.
My only minor gripe in an otherwise stellar film is that the production felt a bit too 'aware' at times, specifically with unnatural pauses for strategic catchphrases that broke the immersion. However, this is a small price to pay for a sequel that truly delivers.
The Verdict: If you liked the first one, you’ll love this. It’s more funny than terrifying, leaning into the "tense humor" that the franchise does best. It's officially Bingeable.
SCORE: 4/5 Stars
Did the first movie's ending leave you wanting more? This sequel delivers.
