Join us for another journey in the creative arts. This time we invite you to the playful inventiveness of a cyanotype workshop.
We will start the day with a guided walk along a private nature trail on the mountain slopes of Cape Point Mountain Getaway. There your guides Ros and Garyth will help you select your samples from an amazing tapestry of choices that you will find in this restored fynbos wonderland.
We then return to the Getaway, where a delectable fynbos inspired lunch, prepared by Lindy, awaits you.
Thereafter Garyth will provide a presentation, sharing his knowledge of the cyanotype process, and demonstrate the fundamentals of this popular and historical form of photography.
We then provide you with a cyanotype kit … and your creative adventure begins.

Super fun shoot with and on Muizenberg station tracks. What stood out for me shooting was the clothings quality, detail and comfortability that came through in the photography. All shots were shot using a Nikon 800D full-frame camera, 70-200mm f2.8 lens, 1/500th shutter speed and 100ISO. This gave me the nice shallow depth of field while allowing me to shoot with a fast shutter speed to avoid any camera shake with the lens racked out at 200mm.

Luci is fast becoming a star in her own right! 🌟
This image was captured on an iPhone 13 Pro in the late afternoon, with the camera positioned very low to the ground. I used the iPhone’s “Portrait” mode to create that beautiful blurred foreground. The phone was held upside down to achieve this unique low angle, without having to lie flat on the sand and a lot of luck getting her in sharp focus at the speed she was running towards me at.

This was definitely a *leg-stinging shot*! A strong south-easterly wind was whipping the sand from left to right. I captured the image using my Nikon D700 with a 28–70mm zoom lens, mounted on a tripod, as I was working with a slow shutter speed. The 2-second exposure beautifully blurred the moving sand, creating the atmospheric mood. I really love this image for the contrast between the soft, flowing motion of the sand and the crisp detail of the foreground rocks.
