You don’t have to be a petrolhead to fall for the Franschhoek Motor Museum. Set among the vineyards and mountains of L’Ormarins Estate, this beautifully curated collection takes you through more than 100 years of motoring – from vintage classics and motorcycles to some seriously glamorous supercars.
With more than 220 vehicles in the collection, around 80 are on display at any one time. It’s a lovely alternative to the usual w**e-and-lunch itinerary.

A taste of this week’s Direct From Cape Town
Cape Town, we’ve got a full week ahead - and this newsletter is your cue to get out there and enjoy it.

With Women’s Day month in full swing, we’re rounding up the prettiest hotels for high tea in the city, plus a dreamy detour out to the Constantia W**e farms, because nothing says ‘treat yourself’ quite like a vineyard view and a glass in hand.

Then things get lively. Watch the city turn into a sea of pink for the Pink Shirt Walk / Run, weaving from District Six all the way to the Grand Parade. Down at the coast, open-water swimmers are diving into the Simon’s Bay Mile at Long Beach - chilly, brave, and very Cape Town. And if beats and beach are more your vibe, Feastival at Cabo Beach Club Cabo Beach is bringing the party, headlined by none other than Mi Casa.

And for the vinyl lovers? The V&A Record & Music Fair is calling your name — crates to dig through, records to fall in love with.

That’s just a taste.

Where do Cape Town’s chefs actually eat on their day off?

Forget the usual “best restaurant” lists - the new Neighbourhood Gems Eat Out Neighbourhood Gems directory works differently. Every spot on it was nominated by chefs and food industry pros, the people who know the city’s hidden gems better than anyone.

Cape Town has about 105 of the 300 chef-approved favourites nationally, right here (more in the greater Cape region). And the C*D, City Bowl and Atlantic Seaboard are leading the charge, packed with the kind of places chefs actually love - cosy bakeries, neighbourhood delis, legendary sushi counters, trattorias, w**e bars and burger joints.

Think HeSheng Chinese Restaurant, Giovanni's Deliworld , Hemelhuijs , 🔴 Arthur’s Mini Super 🔴 , Minato Sushi , CLUB KLOOF willoughbyandcowaterfront KIKI Bacini's on Kloof - and plenty more.

We’ve rounded up every chef-approved gem across the C*D, City Bowl and Atlantic Seaboard, with the Southern Suburbs, Southern Peninsula and Northern Suburbs still to come.
