I tried to capture the feeling of Muizenberg.

I first started moving in and out of Muizenberg in 2023. At the time, I didn’t realise I was slowly being drawn to a place that would eventually ask me to do something I had forgotten how to do: slow down.

For almost eight years, I had been constantly moving. Work, cities, projects, people, plans. Always somewhere to be, something to do, something to figure out.

Then 2024 and 2025 happened. Life was lifing. And burnout wasn’t exactly knocking on the door anymore — it was standing outside waiting for me to answer.

So I moved to Muizenberg.

For a year, I got to experience the place differently. Not as a visitor passing through, but as someone who had time to notice it. The morning light. The mountain. The ocean. Familiar faces. Long walks. Quiet afternoons. The strange beauty of doing absolutely nothing.

Muizenberg taught me that slowing down isn’t standing still.

Sometimes, slowing down is how you finally start seeing again.

This series is my attempt to capture that feeling, not necessarily what Muizenberg looks like, but what it felt like to be there, at that particular point in my life.

Close to Home

Souper Troopers began as a simple act of showing up on the 7 June 2014, exactly 12 years ago and became a practice of staying. Rooted in Cape Town, the collective formed around the belief that dignity is not given, but recognised, and that consistency can be a powerful act of kindness.

Through regular outreach, Souper Troopers shared warm meals, essential supplies, and time with people experiencing homelessness. Yet their work extends beyond provision. It lives in conversation, in remembering names, in returning week after week. These gestures form the quiet architecture of trust.

This visual documentary bears witness to lives often overlooked, capturing moments not of spectacle, but of presence. It follows the unfolding of relationships over time where care is mutual, stories are exchanged, and humanity is centred.

Souper Troopers does not seek to speak for the community, but to stand alongside it. The images presented here reflect an ongoing dialogue, shaped by listening, learning, and shared experience.

This is not a story of rescue. It is a record of connection, continuity, and the power of being seen.

Beyond the studio walls.

While I’ve been sharing more of my studio work lately, photography for me has always been about people and the spaces they move through. The streets, public transport, neighbourhoods, community halls, and everyday moments that often go unnoticed.

Urban photography allows me to document real stories as they unfold moments of truth, joy, work, struggle, and connection. It’s the same perspective I bring into my work with NPOs and NGOs: using photography as a tool to witness, preserve, and share human experiences with dignity.

This image is a reminder that some of the most powerful stories aren’t found on a set. They’re found in the spaces we pass through every day.

That’s where my photography began, and it’s where it continues to grow.

Creating again without overthinking it. No giant production plan, no pretending to have it all figured out. Just showing up, learning as we go, and making things that actually feel real.

Somewhere between the studio lights, random ideas, behind-the-scenes chaos and “let’s just try it,” I remembered why I started creating in the first place.

BIT marketing these days feels like you need to be a filmmaker, editor, strategist, comedian and full-time internet personality before breakfast… but we move 😭

For now, I’m choosing authenticity over perfection.
Building as I go. Creating because I genuinely enjoy it again.

Every year on 2 January, the streets of Cape Town come alive for the Klopse Karnival — a tradition rooted in resilience, rhythm, and remembrance. Known as Tweede Nuwe Jaar, this celebration dates back to the 19th century, when enslaved people were given one day off after New Year’s Day to celebrate their freedom, culture, and community. On the 5th January, they honoured this legacy as they celebrated through Greenpoint — with brass bands, bright suits, painted faces, and songs passed down through generations.

More than a parade, Tweede Nuwe Jaar is a living archive of Cape heritage.
