CAPE TOWN CONCERT SERIES
The Cape Town Concert Series returns to the Baxter Theatre for an outstanding 2025 season to celebrate 70 years of music making. This includes the launch of the newly formed Baxter Trio featuring three of Cape Town’s finest musicians: François du Toit on piano, violinist Farida Bacharova and Graham du Plessis on cello. They will perform a programme of Rachmaninov, Mendelssohn, Schoenfield and Piazzolla. For more details visit www.ctconcerts.co.za

The fight against invasive aliens growing in our wilderness areas is ongoing and one that is not going to end any time soon. In previous episodes we heard about community “hack” groups that are tackling invasives on the slopes of Table Mountain. But what about the ones perched on top of high peaks and cliffs? Chairperson of the Cape Town section of the The Mountain Club of South Africa - Cape Town Section, Anthea van Wieringen, tells Otto van der Walt about their projects clearing invasive aliens from hard-to-reach mountain tops. FMR's Classical and Jazz Albums of the Week are:
CLASSICAL
King of Kings – Bach Orchestral Transcriptions: BBC Philharmonic Orchestra with Sir Andrew Davis & Martyn Brabbins from Chandos Records
Sir Andrew Davis was a talented keyboard player and organ scholar at King’s College, Cambridge under Sir David Willcocks. This sparked his love for the organ works of J.S. Bach. Sir Andrew completed all the transcriptions on this album and recorded four of them in November 2023. He died 10 months later so Martyn Brabbins completed the recording.
JAZZ
Lucía - Lucía
Lucía’s self-titled debut album is a radiant celebration of jazz and Latin American heritage, delivered with stunning vocal finesse.
