When a dynamic ballet company barely eighteen months old receives training from an internationally respected doyenne of the ballet world, a remarkable production is likely to result.

THE VULGARIANS is an unsophisticated s*x comedy for bewildering times. It promises to titillate the adventurous and offend the fuddy-duddies.

Louis Viljoen's new adult comedy delves into the lives of a listless and lustful married couple in crisis. Emily Child and Nicholas Pauling step onto the stage to bring to life this vulgar dalliance. Design by Kieran McGregor.

Written and directed by Pierre Malherbe, WOLF BISCUIT is an absurdist two-hander bro-mantic comedy-drama starring Andrew Roux and Brett Williams. With design by Adrian Collins.

It’s a play about colleagues trying to survive in a literal cut-throat industry and navigate their love/hate relationship. Or is it? There seems to be some mystery as to what WOLF BISCUIT is really all about, but maybe that’s the way it’s supposed to be. As Malherbe himself says: “The wolf in the forest might actually be a malamute.”

What we do know is that the intrepid characters will take you on a surreal journey through betrayal, deception, and different-sized coffee mugs.

Presented by Showtime Management for the fourth time in South Africa over a period of 20 years, it is no surprise that they have perfected the CHICAGO musical formula, leaning into the s*xy and sassy alure of all the well-known tunes and Fosse-licious moves without being overly opulent. The focus is clearly the quality performances at the centre of the show.

One of the stand-out plays of the 15th Zabalaza Theatre Festival, ‘N PANDOK SE LIEFDE, is currently onstage at the Baxter Theatre as part of their “Best of Fest” offering. It is a call to reflect on the resilience of the human spirit in the face of despair.

The fragility of human life and the impact of the violence that characterises the daily lives of the majority of our society is front and centre in ‘N PANDOK SE LIEFDE. Overall the story hits its emotional mark and one leaves the theatre heart-bruised and contemplative.
