These are old pres out of the Paramount Studios console in LA, responsible for records for the likes of Bob Dylan & Frank Zappa. I was asked to rack them and it's taken ages to source all the parts, original audio transformers down to the imperial screws and nuts. Off to a private studio in JHB.

This is a personal project that's taken me 3-years to complete. It's called the MK7, it's a hybrid U67/U47 mic, original Neumann transformer lams wound by the creator/designer, Max, in Switzerland. It uses an EF86, like the U67, self-biased, while there is a PCB the tube socket connections are point to point. The capsule is hand milled and turned by Dale, who, to my knowledge is not longer making them and the capsule mount is from Geffel. A labour of love.

Hey guys, we've been pretty busy over the past few months, racking old modules, completing some Neve builds and currently working through some tube Pultecs. I'm booked with work through year end, but thought it might be fun to try a workshop/class to teach the basics of electronics, either by building a mic pre, stompbox, or modding your own pedals, Boss, Ibanez etc. Something that might be of interest?

The last of the JLM Audio 1290 Mics Pres for Theo Krous at Bellville Studios. Topology is a 1 for 1 copy of the Neve 1290 (1073 mic pre), using vintage Marinair inputs and Carnhill outputs. Sound amazing.

Well it looks like I'll be back in the solder jockey seat come Jan '13. Racking 4 vintage Spectra Sonics 110's, building 2 x 1176's and 8 channels of Neve 1290's. I'm on a diminished work day with two kids, but plan to make the most of it.
