We recently welcomed the new intake at Chrysalis Academy Tokai where 220 fresh recruits of 19 CHARLIE participated in the baboon induction course. Following this will be a week of workshops with smaller groups of the recruits to make them more aware of baboon etiquette and how to behave when baboons are around the Academy, as many of the men have never encountered baboons in the areas they come from.
Chrysalis Academy are also celebrating 20 years of involvement in youth development, we would like to send our CONGRATULATIONS on the wonderful work that they do. Keep it up !

On 7th and 9th January, HWS participated in the Ocean View Multipurpose Centre holiday program once again. Baboon awareness and educational activities were carried out with the young adults and children in attendance. An essential part of our education program includes exposing the youth in baboon-affected areas to the important role chacmas play in the Fynbos biome and how they can help make their homes unattractive to baboons, thereby minimising the appeal for chacmas to enter into the urban environment on the Peninsula.

On 20th December, HWS participated in the Ocean View Multipurpose Centre Holiday Programme. About 35 children and young adults joined for the awareness and education session about baboons, aged from 2-29 years old. By educating young citizens in baboon-affected areas we hope to enhance understanding and change mindsets, thereby minimising conflict between humans and baboons in the urban landscape.
