King Djongo & Futhi Mahlasela - Iph’imali
01 May 2026 - Beatport Exclusive
15 May 2026 - Worldwide release
Iph’imali - the title translating directly as “where is the money?” in isiZulu - does not dress that conclusion in palatable commentary. It uses the dancefloor as the site of the argument. The production is tense: ambient synthesis and natural textures beneath cinematic percussion, Futhi Mahlasela’s vocal functioning less as topline than as exhausted testimony. The mix does not resolve. It sustains pressure.
The Super Ancestral version is where the EP makes its most considered move. King Djongo performs traditional praise poetry honouring both his own and Futhi's clan lineage, addressing her directly. Where streaming offers measurability without meaningful reward, the ancestral tradition offers value that has never required a platform to exist. That collision, between centuries-old oral practice and contemporary electronic production, is where the EP makes its most interesting move.
