We tried Chicken Locken for the first (and last) time

This was a generous portion of Maqluba which 6 of us ate from and still had leftover. 1/2 kg rice + meat for only R250 was a steal. We will definitely support this family again. 🇵🇸* As with most Arab dishes, it can be quite bland in comparison to what we’re used to. ✨ Light lunch at Shift Espresso Bar (Canal Walk) 🍰🥪
We shared their sticky steak tramezzini - big & filling, just a little light on the steak but still satisfying! Crispy chips were on point 👌🏽
Red velvet cheesecake? Absolutely divine 😍
I had their apple cinnamon tea and it hit the spot 🍎🍂
Loved how kid-friendly they are - pages & crayons for the little ones and a baby chair ready.

If you’re after a truly great cup of coffee, then you should definitely visit Platō Coffee . Each time we pass through Hermanus, we stop in and honestly, I’m surprised that we haven’t bought shares by now.

There is a great selection of different coffee styles to choose from as well as a handful of cold beverages. My coffee-connoisseur husband is always satisfied with whichever coffee style he opts for. If you skip caffeine like me, try the Ophelia - a warm and comforting combination of rooibos, white hot chocolate and micro‑foam.

As for snacks: I’ve seen choc‑chip cookies, crunchies, and brownies on display, though their halal status is unclear.

This small, charming thatched‑roof café offers both indoor and outdoor seating perfect for sipping, staying, or taking a cup to go.

✨ The staff are always super friendly and the personal messages that are written on each cup definitely adds a warm touch to the beverage.

✨ Quick brekkie stop at the halaal-certified Bootleggers Coffee Company - Cape Quarter N1 City – and honestly? Zero regrets. 👌🏼

This little branch is cute, cozy, and vibey – ideal for catchups, solo coffee runs, or when you just need to escape the chaos for a hot minute. Think friendly staff, clean space, sweet + savoury snacks staring at you the moment you walk in (we stared back), and a heater because Cape Town mornings have been… disrespectful.

🍳 We tried:
Egg Box – soft scrambled eggs, caramelised onions, pastrami cold cuts… all packed up and perfect for grab-and-go mornings. Comforting, filling, and low-key addictive.
Pastrami Sandwich – bold, cheesy and mustardy. Toasted to golden perfection. If you love a savoury sando with attitude, this is your moment.

☕ Coffee? Approved by my husband – and he’s a certified coffee snob.
