Happy Women’s Day!

Today, we take a moment to honour and celebrate the women of our community - women who carry so much in their families, in our neighbourhoods, in our churches, schools, and in every part of daily life. You are the strength and heart of this ward, and your role in shaping our community can never be overstated.

Right now, we are seeing projects happening - and coming to light - that we’ve never seen before in this ward. Some of the biggest and most exciting developments in the history of our ward, and even some of the biggest in Cape Town. This is not because of anything I’m doing.

What many people don’t realise is that there are women working quietly and tirelessly behind the scenes - some without any compensation or even recognition - who are making these projects possible. Their work, their commitment, and their love for the community is what’s driving so much of this progress.

There are also so many women in our community who motivate me personally. When that tiny handful of people - often politically motivated - try to create negativity or noise, it’s these women who help me rise above it. Their encouragement, strength, and belief in what we’re building reminds me why we keep going. You are the reason we’re moving forward and achieving all that we are.

To all the women in our community: thank you. You are truly changing the face of our community. We appreciate you endlessly, whether your contribution is seen or unseen.

Thank you to each and every woman for the role you play - in your home, in your street, and in our ward.

Happy Women’s Day! May you feel celebrated, valued, and proud of the powerful difference you continue to make every day.

We are currently dealing with a water leak at the corner of Ring Avenue and Akker Street, Macassar. Our teams are on-site and working to resolve the issue as quickly as possible.

To carry out the repairs safely, we will need to shut off the water supply to Ring Avenue, Akker Street, Soekmekaar Street, and the surrounding streets.

We expect the repair to be completed shortly, and we apologise for the inconvenience caused.

Dear Residents,

I want to take a moment to extend my deepest thanks to everyone who made yesterday’s First 1000 Days Indaba such a resounding success.

This event, held in celebration of World Breastfeeding Week 2025, was made possible through a strong and valuable partnership between the City of Cape Town, the Western Cape Government, and the many departments, non-profit organisations, and other dedicated stakeholders who came together to support this important initiative. Your time, energy, and commitment are truly appreciated.

This Indaba was more than just an event - it was a reflection of what we can achieve when government and community work hand-in-hand. From informative talks to practical support and shared stories, it was a day of empowerment for mothers, fathers, and families navigating the critical first 1000 days of a child’s life. The resources and advice shared will go a long way in ensuring healthier, more supported starts for our youngest residents.

But most importantly, I want to thank you - our residents. Thank you for showing up, for participating, and for embracing what the day had to offer. Your presence made the event meaningful. Your questions, stories, and willingness to engage reminded us why we do this work in the first place.

To those who took the time to join me during the open one-on-one sessions, I am especially grateful. It is an honour to serve this community, and I consider it a privilege each time I get to help resolve issues that residents have been facing - sometimes for many years. Being able to play even a small part in making life better for our residents brings me great personal satisfaction. Thank you for trusting me.

Serving this community is not just my responsibility - it is my passion. I am continually inspired by your resilience, your ideas, and your commitment to building a better ward 109 for all.

Let’s keep working together, supporting one another, and building stronger families and a stronger community.

I’m pleased to share some exciting news with you.

Tomorrow, our teams at the City of Cape Town will be partnering with the Western Cape Government to host the “𝐅𝐢𝐫𝐬𝐭 1000 𝐃𝐚𝐲𝐬 𝐈𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐛𝐚” in celebration of 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐝 𝐁𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐟𝐞𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐖𝐞𝐞𝐤 2025.

We would like to specifically invite all pregnant women, mothers with babies, and parents to attend this event, which will offer support, information, and practical tools during the early stages of parenthood.

I want to emphasise that I am reliant on Eskom for these updates and cannot issue any updates if I do not receive one from them. I also want to assure residents that I have been following up with Eskom, and as soon as I receive any additional information from them, I will share it with you.

Dear Residents,

Our teams have informed me that two valves need to be installed tomorrow in Hoepoe Street, Macassar.

Please note that in order to carry out the necessary work, the water supply to Hoepoe Street, Tarentaal Street, Piet My Vrou Street, and the surrounding areas will be temporarily shut off from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM.

We kindly ask all residents to make the necessary preparations.

Please:

1. Store enough clean, sealed water for domestic use during the outage.

2. Keep all taps closed during the disruption to prevent water loss or damage when the supply is restored.

⚠️ Important to Note:

• When the water supply returns, it may appear discoloured or milky due to trapped air in the pipes. This is normal and should clear after standing for a short while.

• Some homes may experience a delay in the full restoration of water pressure.

Please note that there are, at times, circumstances that are beyond our control, which may result in delays to the planned restoration time. Furthermore, after the water supply has been restored, it may take some time for water pressure to reach all homes and to fully normalise.

Dear Residents,

I have been informed that some of our City of Cape Town rental units (flats) and other homes are currently without power. The issues affecting both the flats and other homes appear to stem from an Eskom supply issue.

I would like to thank all the residents who have actively been logging calls. However, unfortunately, very few residents have logged calls to report the issues to Eskom.

‼️ 𝐈𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐜𝐫𝐮𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐚𝐬 𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐲 𝐚𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬 𝐚𝐬 𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐥𝐨𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐢𝐫 𝐜𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐬 ‼️

If you reside in the flats, you will not be able to log a call directly, as you have City of Cape Town meters. However, you can still log a call by asking someone living nearby for their meter number - even if they are not directly affected.

Eskom does not always grasp the seriousness of faults when only a handful of people report them. However, when multiple residents log complaints, they can see the scale of the issue and may decide to prioritise the repair accordingly.

I am sure by now most of you have seen that our community leaders have arranged a motorcade tomorrow to celebrate Gilermo’s incredible achievement. This is such a great initiative and I sincerely hope that our community can come out to support this event.

I have unfortunately been booked for another event quite some time ago and won’t be there in person. I have, however, asked our honourable City of Cape Town ward committee members to represent me and the ward committee at the event.
