We need UBUNTU…

South Africa needs God. We have removed Him from so many institutions, and democracy has played a part in this. We We are so fixated on our own status, worried about what we might lose, that we turn a blind eye to the wrongs happening in our communities.

We are afraid to lose our lives if we point out gangsterism, murder, r**e, human trafficking, robbery, abuse of parents, wives, sisters, brothers, and children. So we say, “It’s not my problem.” But silence is not safety, it is surrender.

To the organisations, especially unions, that preach unity, fairness, justice, and empathy: you fight for human rights and against poverty, yet many of your retirees are still waiting for benefits owed to them. You blame Covid‑19 for lack of funding, but by withholding what is due, you contribute to the very poverty you claim to fight.

Political parties mourn the killings in our country, yet when Treasury tables a budget that cuts corners on safety, health, and pension grants, you endorse it. Parliament has become a playground where society’s dignity is treated like a game of ping‑pong. When leaders sit on the throne, they think they only need to account to their own political sphere.
That is not accountability — that is betrayal.

Nowadays democracy feels like it protects the perpetrators instead of the victims and survivors. Certain laws are failing the very people they were meant to defend. These laws need to be re‑looked, re‑written, and amended — not to serve power, but to serve justice.

Please restore our country’s dignity — by protecting survivors, not perpetrators.
