KNOW THE WARNING SIGNS OF CHILDHOOD CANCER

Childhood cancer is rare, but early detection can make a significant difference. Doctors across Western Cape hospitals are urging parents and caregivers to pay attention to persistent or unusual symptoms.

Warning signs can include unexplained lumps, ongoing fever, weight loss, unusual tiredness, easy bruising and persistent pain. Families are encouraged to seek medical advice when symptoms do not improve.

With a potentially drier summer ahead, the City of Cape Town is encouraging residents and businesses to use water responsibly.

Cape Garden Centre has been recognised for improving water efficiency and promoting water-wise gardening, while the City continues to encourage businesses to reduce waste and explore alternative water sources.

WESTERN CAPE RAMPS UP TB TESTING

The Western Cape is strengthening TB testing and early treatment, with 84% of patients starting treatment within seven days of diagnosis between April and August 2026.

Health teams are also expanding testing, household tracing and follow-up support to help prevent the spread of TB.

CITY DRONES HELP TRACK ALLEGED SMASH-AND-GRAB SUSPECTS

New drone technology is helping Cape Town Metro Police track suspected smash-and-grab criminals. During a joint operation in Elsies River, live aerial footage helped officers monitor suspect movements and support arrests.

The City says camera systems have also assisted in identifying hundreds of suspects linked to suspicious vehicles and crime alerts.

Cape Town TV is partnering with Philippi TV to pilot our first Social & Behaviour Change Communication (SBCC) Workshop Programme, officially launched on 28 September at our offices in Observatory.

The training is being facilitated by Lebogang Ramafoko, who developed extensive experience in SBCC during her time as CEO of the Soul City Institute, where she was closely involved in work focused on social justice, gender equality, HIV/AIDS, violence prevention and health communication.

Funded by the National Film and Video Foundation (NFVF), the five-month programme aims to equip Cape Town TV’s network of local drama producers with SBCC methodologies to strengthen the social impact and sustainability of their productions.

At the end of the programme, participants will put their learning into practice by producing a series of short films.

We’re proud to close off our birth month by investing in local storytellers, building skills and creating opportunities for stories that can make a meaningful social impact.
