Forming part of a R10.2 million investment in the area, Princess Vlei's new 4.23km circulatory trail is open! Visitors can enjoy this beautiful wetlands with its new resting area and seating, litter bins, boardwalks, bridges and more.

Also under construction is the Princess Vlei BMX track, which will be a purpose-built space for riders, especially young ones, who’ve long needed a safe, structured place to ride.

As a space that is home to remnants of critically endangered plant species including Strawberry Spiderheads, Marsh Heath and more, the city has ensured that the ecological space is a priority, focusing on rehabilitation of sensitive vegetation during construction.

As part of the latest phase of the ongoing rehabilitation programme, SANParks has planted over 300 indigenous trees in Newlands Forest.

Cape Beech seeds, also known as Boekenhout, were planted as part of the project's efforts to restore the ecological balance and curb the impact of bark stripping in one of Cape Town's most loved forests.
