Rondevlei bids farewell to Brutus, the much-loved hippo who ruled its waters for years.

City officials are now considering bringing in a new male to ensure the wetland’s balance and future generations of hippos 🦛

Let’s keep the legacy of Brutus alive through continued conservation and care.

Brutus arrived at Rondevlei in November 1981, and was the first hippo to be reintroduced into the Western Cape in 300 years. He was still producing offspring until recently.
