🚨 BREAKING | MTHATHA BUSINESSMAN ARRESTED — 140 FI****MS SEIZED

A 60-year-old businessman from Mthatha, Eastern Cape, has been arrested for alleged contraventions of the Fi****ms Control Act 60 of 2000 following a compliance inspection at the head office of his security company.

Members of Operation Buyisa reportedly found the businessman in possession of a company firearm without the required permit.

During the inspection, SAPS also discovered that fi****ms registered to the security company were not accounted for in its stock register.

🔴 140 fi****ms were seized

🔴 135 additional fi****ms remain unaccounted for

The businessman was already out on bail in connection with an attempted murder case involving a police official in July 2026. It is alleged that he discharged a firearm inside a tent during a traditional occasion, resulting in an off-duty police official sustaining a gunshot wound.

He is expected to appear before the Mthatha Magistrates' Court on Tuesday, 29 September 2026, for a formal bail application relating to the latest arrest.

The seized fi****ms will undergo ballistic testing to determine whether any may have been used in other serious or violent crimes.

SAPS says compliance inspections form part of ongoing efforts to ensure adherence to the Fi****ms Control Act and prevent the unlawful use and proliferation of fi****ms.
