Finding Qamata Written & Illustrated By Kaya Mazule

Kaya Mazule, a multidisciplinary artist, has merged art, spirituality, and education to document and educate kids using his skill and talent in a form of a comic book.

Turning a year in November, Finding Qamata is a comic book about the journey of a curious young boy who questions life beyond earth.

SYNOPSIS:

When young Litha, a curious boy from the Eastern Cape, begins questioning the stories of his ancestors, he’s thrust into a journey that blurs the line between myth and reality. After a strange dream calls him by name, Litha sets out to find Qamata, the ancient creator of all things — the unseen force his elders say still watches over the world.

Guided only by fragments of old songs and the whispers of the wind, Litha’s quest takes him across sacred mountains, forgotten caves, and timeless rivers that remember the footsteps of his people. Along the way, he meets mysterious beings — some who challenge him to prove his courage and respect for tradition, others who tempt him to abandon his faith for the comforts of the modern world.

As Litha battles doubt, pride, and the pull of two worlds — the spiritual and the physical — he begins to understand that finding Qamata isn’t about reaching a distant god, but about rediscovering the divine power that lives within his people and himself.

A story of faith, identity, and cultural awakening, Finding Qamata blends ancient Xhosa cosmology with universal themes of self-discovery, offering a tale that bridges generations — where spirituality is not lost, only waiting to be found again.
