Veterinarians, industry experts, and farmers have gathered in Potchefstroom to discuss viable solutions for foot-and-mouth disease (FMD). Supported by the Ruminant Veterinary Association of South Africa (RuVasa) and other stakeholders, Dr Jan Bastiaan Fouché, a veterinarian at the Parys Animal Hospital, initiated the FMD workshop. Dr Fouché is assisted by Dr David Pretorius, a wildlife veterinarian and owner of Motsumi Darts, MIOT, and Buffalo Analytics, in organising the event which Plaas Media is attending today.
Event speakers include Dr Mark Chimes, manager of the Animal Health and Welfare Programme of Milk SA, Dr Lin-Mari de Klerk Lorist, chief state veterinarian at the National Department of Agriculture, Dr Baptiste Dungu, member of the scientific commission of the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH), Dr David Ge**er, CEO and chairperson of Dunevax Biotech, and Dr Dave Midgley, CEO of RuVASA.
