Day two of the UP-Agric Feedlot challenge kicked off this morning with Dr Johan Cloete of Vet2Farm giving the students a lecture on the principles of stress-free animal handling.

The Plaas Media team is attending the first day of the 2025 UP-Agric Feedlot Challenge and we are privileged to be the exclusive media partner that will follow the students in their feedlot journey over the next couple of weeks.

Today the students will attend lectures that will cover the introduction to the 2025 challenge as well as several topics presented by guest speakers. These topics include how to convey technical information on social media, feedlot lamb processing, sheep feedlot health management, biosecurity for feedlot conditions, general feedlot rules and guidelines, and health and safety at the UP experimental farm’s small-stock unit.

• Measurement of the biome – ‘Gesondheid uit die grond uit.’
• Optimising efficiency and quality.
• Enabling the future of farming.

The congress will take place from 21 to 25 July and entails a wide scope of topics related to earth sciences.

Plaas Media's 2024 Toyota SA National Young Auctioneer, Fiso Hadebe, participated in Calgary Stampede's international auctioneering competition at the weekend. Hadebe placed 27th out of 40 contestants and was one of two international participants invited to participate as a guest in the final round of this competition. After the competition, Hadebe was invited to visit auction barns around Canada, to gain more experience and has extended his stay in Calgary.
