Agri X, in partnership with the North-West University (NWU), will host the Agri X Fusion Red Meat Value Chain Event from 4 to 5 March 2026 at the NWU Mahikeng Campus.

This first-of-its-kind initiative brings together industry leaders, producers, researchers, feedlots, processors and policymakers to collectively address the most critical challenges shaping South Africa’s red meat value chain.

Veterinarians, industry experts, and farmers have gathered in Potchefstroom to discuss viable solutions for foot-and-mouth disease (FMD). Supported by the Ruminant Veterinary Association of South Africa (RuVasa) and other stakeholders, Dr Jan Bastiaan Fouché, a veterinarian at the Parys Animal Hospital, initiated the FMD workshop. Dr Fouché is assisted by Dr David Pretorius, a wildlife veterinarian and owner of Motsumi Darts, MIOT, and Buffalo Analytics, in organising the event which Plaas Media is attending today.

Event speakers include Dr Mark Chimes, manager of the Animal Health and Welfare Programme of Milk SA, Dr Lin-Mari de Klerk Lorist, chief state veterinarian at the National Department of Agriculture, Dr Baptiste Dungu, member of the scientific commission of the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH), Dr David Ge**er, CEO and chairperson of Dunevax Biotech, and Dr Dave Midgley, CEO of RuVASA.

As the saying goes, “team work makes the dream work,” and this year, two of Plaas Media’s teams were recognised for their collaborative accomplishments as part of the 2025 Plaas Media Awards.

Our Team Spirit Award, given to a department for professional conduct, meeting deadlines and working well as a team, went to the Plaas PR and communications department. They are Deidré Louw, PR & Communications Manager, Jandrie Klopper, web editor, Milla Matthee, communications assistant and social media writer, Monique Fourie, content editor, and Olga-Louise Lemmer, junior content creator.

The Project/Product of The Year is awarded to the team whose project contributed positively to the company's product line-up in various ways. This year, Annemie Visser, designer and layout artist, Jayne du Plooy, deputy editor of printed media, Karin Changuion-Duffy, sales consultant and Susan Steyn, sales consultant, received the award for their work on the RPO Livestock Production Manual, a guide to sustainable and profitable livestock production published on behalf of the Red Meat Producers' Organisation.

Plaas Media’s team is small, but incredibly creative, driven and dedicated to its craft. We value our employees, and as the year comes to an end, we’d like to celebrate their triumphs. It is with great pleasure that we announce Plaas Media’s 2025 award winners.

Susan Steyn was honoured as Sales Person of the Year for excellence in achieving targets, serving clients, and meeting company expectations.

Koos du Pisanie, Northern Cape regional representative and writer, was awarded Regional Representative of the Year for the exemplary way in which he conducts himself in his region.

Carin Venter, writer and regional representative, was named Broadcast Contributor of the Year for her contributions to Plaas Media’s TV and radio platforms.

Christal-Lize Miller, journalist and regional representative in North West, was named Social Media Contributor of the Year as well as News Contributor of the Year for her enthusiastic contribution to Plaas Media’s social media and her timely delivery of good quality news articles.

Susan Marais, senior writer and news editor, was honoured as Writer of the Year for excellence in delivering quality editorial content.

Olga-Louise Lemmer, junior content creator, received this year’s Merit Award for her stellar contributions, hard work and tenacity as an employee.

Deidré Louw, PR & Communications Manager, received the Staff Member of the Year award for her exceptional role as a colleague.

The Kaonafatso ya Dikgomo (KyD) scheme supports emerging cattle farmers in applying beef recording and improvement technologies. This enables accurate selection for economically important traits, while boosting herd productivity and profitability.

This award, sponsored by Plaas Media and Stockfarm Magazine, aims to recognise KyD scheme members who excel in herd recordings, management, and performance; encourage emerging cattle farmers to improve their livelihoods through higher returns from livestock production and job creation; promote participation in the KyD scheme; support sound breeding and management practices within the beef industry; and demonstrate the practical benefits of performance testing by highlighting outstanding herds.
