Common Myths vs. Facts
Myth: GBV is only physical violence.

Fact: It includes emotional, psychological, sexual, and financial abuse, such as insults, threats, stalking, and controlling finances.

Myth: Victims provoke the abuse or ask for it.

Fact: No one asks to be abused; the abuser is solely responsible, and the responsibility never lies with the victim

"I am enough. As a woman, my worth isn’t measured by what I do, but by who I am. I choose to honor myself, speak life over myself, and walk boldly in my God-given identity. 💛✨

How You Can Help a Friend Experiencing GBV

1. Listen Without Judgment
Let them tell their story at their own pace.

Believe them. Survivors often fear being doubted.

Use gentle phrases like: “I’m here for you,”
“I believe you,”
“What you’re feeling is valid.”

2. Prioritize Their Safety
Ask if they feel safe right now.

If they’re in immediate danger, help them contact local emergency services (if safe to do so).

Help them think through a safety plan, such as:

🌱A safe place to go

🌱A code word they can send you if they need help

🌱A go-bag with important items (ID, meds, etc.)

3. Empower—Don’t Pressure
GBV takes away a person’s control.

Give them choices, not instructions:

“Would you like help finding a support service?”

“Is it okay if I check in with you later?”

4. Support Access to Professional Help
You can help them find:

🌱Local GBV hotlines

🌱Shelters and crisis centers

🌱Medical care and counseling

🌱Legal aid or advocacy groups

5. Protect Their Privacy
Don’t share their story without consent.

🌱Be discreet—abusers often monitor phones and messages.

6. Keep Showing Up
Trauma is long-term.

🌱Keep checking in with simple messages: “Thinking of you. No pressure to reply.”

🚨 If the friend is in immediate danger
Encourage them to contact emergency services or the nearest GBV hotline. If they can’t, you can call on their behalf (if it’s safe and legal in your area).

POINT IS:
Joy isn’t based on circumstances — it’s rooted in the Lord. Let His joy be your strength today and always. 🌿✨
What I love about God is that when He raises you up, there is no human power that can bring you down. They will try but God will lift up a standard against them. 🙏🏽
