African Gospel offers a critical investigation into the spread of prosperity theology, largely propagated through the Word of Faith movement, which has subtly yet profoundly altered the theological landscape of the continent. By appealing to aspirations for wealth and success, this movement often merges with elements of traditional African religious thought and Pan-African ideological narratives, resulting in a syncretistic distortion of biblical truth.
The film argues that such teachings obscure the central message of Christianity, the salvation of sinners by grace through faith in Jesus Christ, substituting eternal hope with temporal promises. It is therefore a clarion call to return to the apostolic Gospel, which alone is 'the power of God unto salvation to everyone who believes' (Romans 1:16).
