Mandela University Press proudly announces the release of Pan-African Integration from Below: Language, Publics, Culture, a thought-provoking exploration of Pan-Africanism grounded in the lived realities of everyday African communities.
Challenging traditional, top-down approaches, this book introduces a vernacular discourse approach, centring language, publics, and culture as critical tools for reimagining Pan-African unity. Drawing on rich ethnographic data from African diasporas in Australia and cross-border traders at three African ports of entry, the authors highlight the often-overlooked grassroots mediators who shape African identity and integration on their own terms.
This work offers fresh insights for scholars, policymakers, and readers interested in decolonial thought, language and identity, and African futures rooted in community-based practice.
