The recent meeting between President Cyril Ramaphosa and Donald Trump was a masterclass in composure versus arrogance. While Ramaphosa remained diplomatic and measured, Trump’s constant interruptions and attempts to dominate the conversation....as if trying to pull a Zelensky 2.0 on him, revealed a deeply condescending view of African leaders.

Trump’s obsession with the non-existent 'white genoc!de' myth, despite Ramaphosa’s calm corrections, shows how little respect he has for African realities. Instead of engaging in genuine dialogue, Trump bulldozed through with his usual theatrics, treating Ramaphosa not as an equal head of state but as someone to be lectured. This is how Western imperialists have always engaged with Africa, interrupting, dictating, and refusing to listen unless it serves their own narratives.

Meanwhile, Trump’s fixation on Julius Malema, from viral reels of his rallies, printed copies of his Tweets, to their attempts to discredit him, proves that Africa’s defiant voices cannot be silenced. Malema’s refusal to bow to imperialist pressure has only amplified his support among true Pan-Africanists. The more the Trump administration tries to control the narrative, the more they expose their fear of Africa’s rising consciousness.

Ramaphosa’s restraint in that meeting was strategic, but Malema’s unapologetic resistance is revolutionary. The difference is clear: one negotiates with the system, the other dismantles it. And as long as Western leaders like Trump keep talking over Africans instead of listening, movements like Malema’s will only grow stronger.

This level of incompetence is inexcusable. The NRZ’s response isn’t just negligent, it’s a blatant disregard for legal and regulatory frameworks that exist precisely to prevent such chaos. If a national railway authority fails to understand (or enforce) its own mandate, what hope is there for functional infrastructure in Zimbabwe????

This isn’t about a mere ‘miscommunication’, it’s about systemic failure. The Railways Act is clear, municipal laws are clear, yet institutions like NRZ and the City of Harare seem to operate in a vacuum of accountability. How many more illegal structures will be erected before someone is held responsible?

Zimbabwe deserves better than this circus 🎪 If NRZ can’t uphold its role as a regulator, then imminent change, from leadership to policy enforcement is non-negotiable. The public’s patience has run out 🥵🥵🤧🤧🤧!

Over the past weekend, the NRZ was inundated with inquiries regarding a security wall built on a railway line, whose pictures went viral on the social media. We hereby wish to set the record straight and lay the facts bare.

The NRZ went on a fact-finding mission and established that the structure in question was built on top of a disused, privately-owned siding leading to a now defunct factory which is currently being demolished after the property was bought by a Chinese-owned company last year. These sidings are owned by private companies that require goods to be railed to their premises from our yards.

The wall was built to secure the property located on 44 Tilbury Rd in the Willowvale industrial area of Harare. Our team managed to speak to a director at the company identified as Ms Li, who said they built the security wall to prevent thieves from accessing their newly acquired property. So, effectively, the NRZ does not have any mandate over the disused line but understands that the City of Harare is looking into the matter.

📊 Did you know?

As of January 2025, just 18 countries have a woman Head of State, and 16 countries have a woman Head of Government. Policy changes in education, childcare, and political representation can close this gap.

What’s one policy you think would help in your country?
