SAPS has activated a 72-hour tracking operation following the fatal shooting of 11 people at KwaMakhutha, south of Durban.

Three others were injured after armed suspects allegedly opened fire on people gathered inside a house in the Ziko area. Police say investigators are following a promising lead, while the motive remains unknown.

An RTI officer has died after a state-owned vehicle caught fire while he was on duty on the N2 at Park Rynie on Tuesday night. The officer, identified as Timothy Simpson, was travelling in the vehicle when it was engulfed in flames at about 8pm.

RTI and SAPS are investigating the circumstances surrounding the fire and Simpson’s death.

Suspect arrested with two unlicensed fi****ms in Wentworth shooting probe

A 29-year-old man is expected to appear in the Durban Magistrates’ Court after police arrested him in Montclair with two unlicensed fi****ms, four magazines and 57 rounds of ammunition.

Police say the suspect was linked to several shootings in Wentworth and was arrested by members of the KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Drugs and Fi****ms Unit on Monday.

The recovered fi****ms will undergo ballistic testing to determine whether they may be linked to other crimes.

The suspect faces charges of possession of unlicensed fi****ms and ammunition.
