100km. Rain. Low cloud. Exhaustion. A cause worth walking for.

Wits Adventure and Environmental Society students recently took on the gruelling Notties 100 in Nottingham Road as part of the Breaking the Darkness campaign, raising more than R26 000 for Unchain Our Children.

Sixteen participants started the challenge, with three completing the full 100km.

At every 25km mark, participants lit a candle and wrote a letter in solidarity with people affected by human trafficking and exploitation.

The DA has launched an election billboard along Durban’s N2 targeting eThekwini’s handling of the city’s water crisis and reliance on water tankers.

The billboard features Mayor Cyril Xaba, City Manager Musa Mbhele and Water and Sanitation Executive Director Ednick Msweli alongside the message “You can stop the water tanker mafia.”

The city officials have demanded a retraction and apology, while the DA says the billboard will remain. The dispute comes as parties campaign ahead of the 4 November local government elections.

After a devastating fire destroyed the Delfi family’s home and beloved restaurant, Durban’s creative community is coming together to help them rebuild.

A special one-off variety show featuring the Glitter Girls, Mo Magic, Rory Petzer and young performers from ISPA will take place at Milkwood Theatre on Monday, 19 October, at 7pm.

Hosted by Hello Poppy, the fundraiser promises an evening of music, laughter and magic, with all ticket proceeds going directly to the Delfi family.

Come out, support local talent and help show the Delfi family that Durban stands with them.

The investigation follows concerns raised at a local primary school, with SAPS, the Department of Social Development and child welfare authorities now involved.

Child protection officials have urged the public not to share the children’s names, photographs or identifying information, stressing that children in such circumstances need protection, support and care.
