- The Commission went on recess from Thursday 3 September and resumed today, 15 Sept at 09:30 at Brigitte Mabandla Justice College, Pretoria.

New Focus: JMPD — Joburg Metro Police infiltrated*
- Upon resumption, the Commission shifted focus to the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD), one of the law enforcement agencies in its terms of reference
- Today it is hearing testimony regarding infiltration of JMPD by criminal networks, and collusion between JMPD officers and criminal syndicates

What happened in the hearing TODAY:*
- New witness: *Sgt Rico van Wyk (JMPD K9 Unit)* on the stand
- He presented CCTV footage of a *2021 kidnapping of a child* in Joburg
- He identified 2 officers in the video: *Warrant Officer Johannes Mokgatle and Zwelibanzi Mgujulwa* — both on his shift
- Mokgatle is linked to murder-accused businessman *Katiso Molefe*
- When asked, the officers remained silent and gave no explanation .

*Also expected:*
JMPD internal affairs head testified about threats against investigators
- Focus on multimillion-rand gemstone heist allegedly coordinated with EMPD Deputy Chief Julius Mkhwanazi.

*Timeline:*
- Public evidence ends 2 Oct 2026, final report to President Ramaphosa now due *16 November 2026* (extended from August).

After a short break, the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry is set to resume public hearings on Tuesday, 15 September 2026 at 09:30.

The commission was initially expected back on Monday, but proceedings were pushed back by a day due to prior commitments involving two commissioners.
