“A story gives a soul to a statistic.”

Educator, author, poet and community activist Zahida Wahab believes words have the power to inspire kindness, empower women and give a voice to children and communities too often represented only by statistics.

In this edition of On the Couch, Wahab opens up about her love of storytelling, her children’s books and poetry, her work with Child Welfare Chatsworth and Chatsworth Hospice, and her passion for literacy, child protection, women’s empowerment and GBV prevention.

From her anthology Being Sunflowers When the World Turns Grey to stories translated into nine official languages, Wahab is using her gift of writing to leave behind what she calls “heartprints of kindness”.
