Ctrl + F = "Find"
Across most programs, its main function is to open a Find/Search box so you can search for text within the current document, page, or window.
Common uses by app:
- Web browsers (Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Safari): Opens the Find bar to search for words on the current webpage
- Microsoft Word, Google Docs: Opens the Navigation/Find pane to search for text in the document
- Excel: Opens the "Find and Replace" dialog to search for data in cells
- PDF readers (Adobe, etc.): Search for text within the PDF
- File Explorer/Windows: Opens the search box to find files/folders
- VS Code, programming IDEs: Find text in the current file
Basically, if you need to search for something, Ctrl + F is your shortcut.
