The Rise Up Movement [Coming To Jozi] is a documentary-film production which focuses on multi-disciplined artists/creatives from Durban in South Africa who have made the ultimate decision to leave their places of origin to pursue their talents and art in Johannesburg. Often perceived as Africa’s Arts, culture and entertainment hub; Jozi [Johannesburg] as it’s famously known to most people is a p

lace where dreams come true. The film will follow very closely the journeys of four dynamic creatives, as they navigate the streets of Johannesburg in pursuit of their dreams. Their worlds are interlinked as they come from similar backgrounds and have crossed paths before coming to Jozi. The film sees these four determined creatives navigating their way in the wild and unforgiving streets of Jozi. They meet to collaborate on a few activations, events and projects which they intend to launch themselves into the glitz and glam of Jozi. They encounter challenges, share their experiences and meet other artists with similar experiences. It explores themes of spirituality, depression, talent, alcohol and drug addiction, chasing one's aspirations and dreams, to name but a few.

NAC Annual Funding Outcomes Survey

Dear Artists and Cultural Organisations,

Following today’s visit to the National Arts Council (NAC), the collective of artists and organisations present noted the following key concerns:

The NAC has shown disrespect towards the sector and the collective by failing to honour its commitment to meet with the group and present its proposal directly.

There is no clarity regarding the consequences for NAC management and staff who did not fulfil their responsibilities to ensure that the funding outcomes were announced as initially promised on 17 October 2025.

The collective has expressed a strong position that they will only leave the NAC premises once the results have been officially announced.

In response, the NAC has proposed the following revised schedule for announcing the Annual Funding Outcomes:

20 October 2025 (Monday):

Visual Arts

23 October 2025 (Thursday):

Craft

Literature

Dance

Theatre

31 October 2025 (Friday):

Music

Multi-Discipline

The collective is requesting sector-wide feedback on the NAC’s proposed schedule.

We kindly ask all artists and organisations to complete the short survey below to share your views and help inform the collective response:

Your input is valuable in ensuring that the voice of the sector is heard and respected.

Thank you for your participation.
