Football should unite us, not divide us. 🇿🇼🤝🇿🇦⚽
Yes, many Zimbabweans living in South Africa have experienced or witnessed xenophobia. The pain, fear and frustration are real. But should we direct that anger at 11 players wearing a national jersey? Should an entire nation be judged by the actions of a few?
If we do that, aren't we becoming what we claim to oppose?
Bafana Bafana did not create xenophobia. The players on that pitch are not responsible for the hatred of a handful of misguided individuals. In fact, countless South Africans have stood shoulder to shoulder with fellow Africans, rejecting xenophobia and defending the dignity of migrants.
Those who benefit from division want Africans fighting each other. They want Zimbabweans against South Africans, Nigerians against Zimbabweans, Congolese against everyone else. Every time we fall into that trap, we hand them victory.
We can condemn xenophobia without condemning an entire people. We can demand justice without abandoning fairness. We can challenge hate while still embracing African unity.
Pan-Africanism isn't just a slogan we use when it's convenient. It is choosing solidarity over bitterness, dialogue over hostility, and humanity over stereotypes.
Africa has enough battles already. Let's not turn football into another one.
One Africa. One people. One future. ✊🏾🌍❤️
What's your take? Can we separate our justified anger from our love for the beautiful game? :::
