GOVAN MBEKI MUNICIPALITY HOSTS 2025 GOLDEN GAMES LOCAL SELECTION
Elderly Athletes Showcase Their Spirit and Talent at Lillian Ngoyi Stadium
Secunda, 06 August 2025 – The Govan Mbeki Municipality recently hosted the local selection for the 2025 Golden Games at the Lillian Ngoyi Stadium in Secunda. The event brought together elderly men and women from various groups to compete in a range of sporting activities, including dress-up, duck walks, passing the ball, ball pass, and kick.
The Golden Games is an annual initiative by the Department of Social Development in partnership with the Department of Culture, Sport, and Recreation. The event aims to promote active aging, fitness, and community spirit among participants. It also serves as a platform to select a team that will represent each district at the provincial stage, with top performers ultimately forming the Mpumalanga team for the national championships.
Executive Mayor, Cllr Nhlakanipho Zuma, welcomed participants and spectators to the event, emphasizing the importance of promoting active aging and community engagement. "The Golden Games is a wonderful initiative that showcases the talent and spirit of our elderly community members," said Cllr Zuma. "We are proud to host this event and support our participants as they strive for excellence."
