YOUTH LEAD THE WAY IN EMBALENHLE CLEAN-UP CAMPAIGN

EMBALENHLE – Young people from across Embalenhle came together today in a powerful display of community spirit during the Sihlangene Youth Development Centre (YDC) Cleaning Campaign.

Armed with cleaning equipment and a shared commitment to improving their surroundings, the youth dedicated their time and energy to cleaning public spaces and promoting environmental responsibility within the community.

The initiative not only helped create a cleaner and healthier environment but also demonstrated the positive role young people can play in community development. Residents praised the participants for their hard work, dedication, and willingness to give back to the community.

Organisers expressed their appreciation to all volunteers who participated, highlighting that collective action remains key to building a stronger and more united Embalenhle.

The campaign served as a reminder that when young people work together, they can make a meaningful difference and inspire positive change.

HOME AFFAIRS TO OPEN THIS WEEKEND FOR VOTER REGISTRATION SERVICES

The Department of Home Affairs has announced that its offices across South Africa will be open this weekend, Saturday, 20 June 2026, and Sunday, 21 June 2026, from 08:00 to 17:00, to support the Voter Registration Weekend.

Residents are encouraged to visit their nearest Home Affairs office to apply for a Smart ID card or collect Smart IDs that are ready for collection. According to the department, more than 370,000 Smart IDs are currently awaiting collection nationwide.

Citizens are urged to take advantage of this opportunity to secure their identification documents, access future opportunities, and ensure they are ready to participate in upcoming elections.

SPEAKER OF COUNCIL URGES ELIGIBLE CITIZENS TO REGISTER FOR THE UPCOMING LOCAL GOVERNMENT ELECTIONS

The Speaker of Council, Councillor Fikile Magagamela, calls on all eligible citizens of Govan Mbeki Municipality, particularly first-time voters and residents who have recently relocated, to participate in the upcoming Electoral Commission (IEC) national voter registration weekend.

Registration stations will be open across all municipal wards this coming weekend, Saturday, 20 June, and Sunday, 21 June 2026, from 08:00 to 17:00.

This registration drive is an important step ahead of the Local Government Elections scheduled for 4 November 2026.

"Our local democracy depends heavily on active citizen participation. Voting starts with registration. Your vote is your power to choose leaders who will shape your immediate community, oversee service delivery, and manage local resources. I urge every eligible resident to take 10 minutes out of their weekend to ensure their voice is heard."

YOUNG STARS SHINE AS TALENT SHOWCASE CELEBRATES LOCAL TALENT

EXT 18 HALL, EMBALENHLE | 16 JUNE 2026

Hluzingqondo Performing Arts and Bokamoso Day Care Talent Showcase successfully brought together young performers, families, and community members in a vibrant celebration of talent, culture, and youth development at Ext 18 Hall.

The event featured a variety of performances, including energetic dance routines, poetry, drama, and musical acts, providing a platform for young artists to showcase their abilities and build confidence. The atmosphere was filled with excitement as participants competed for top honours in both group and individual categories.

After a day of outstanding performances, Thulasizwe emerged as the overall winner, securing 1st place, while Ezika Mbatha claimed 2nd place. Emba Squad proudly secured 3rd place after delivering a strong and entertaining performance that impressed both judges and the audience.

Awards were presented up to 6th position, with winners receiving trophies, medals, and certificates in recognition of their hard work, commitment, and talent. Individual performers were also honoured for their exceptional contributions throughout the competition.

The event highlighted the importance of investing in young people and creating opportunities for them to express themselves through arts and culture. It also showcased the successful partnership between Hluzingqondo Performing Arts and Bokamoso Day Care, whose collaboration helped create a memorable and inspiring experience for all involved.

As the curtains closed on another successful showcase, one message was clear: the future of arts and culture in Embalenhle is in capable hands.
