DJ PROFILE: MANDLA MAGWAZA

Mandla Magwaza affectionately known as "Njinji Wam" to his listeners hails from a small town of Jozini in the northern KwaZulu Natal.

Magzwaza fell in love with radio at a young age and he than joined Maputaland Community Radio as a gossip and entertainment contributor. After completing his matric in 2003 he enrolled for a Radio Production course. In the year 2005 he professionally kick started his radio career with Durban Youth Radio where he did weekend shows. Through his hard work and excellence he managed to clinched a coveted afternoon drive show. In 2007 Mandla Magwaza worked as a freelance Technical producer at the SABC RBF Department and in 2008 he joined the SABC Radio Sales as a sound engineer. His hard work finally paid off when he joined Ukhozi FM which is South Africa's biggest radio station home to 7.3 million listeners as a Technical producer on "Vuka Mzansi" a breakfast show which was hosted by the legendary Linda Sibiya.
Njinji Wam hosted his own shows within the station including Ukhozi FM Top 20 and Ukhozi FM Party Time.

The baritone Magwaza also served as a station voice over artist. Mandla has also worked alongside Dudu "Lady D" Khoza as her Technical producer.

On January 7th Mandla abruptly left Ukhozi FM and left many of his fans confused. On 24 January 2026 Mandla Magwaza sadly passed away in hospital after a short illness.

STATEMENT - PRESIDENT MOURNS PASSING OF AMBASSADOR EMMANUEL NKOSINATHI “NATHI” MTHETHWA

President is saddened by the passing of Ambassador Nathi Mthethwa, South Africa’s Head of Mission in Paris, who has died in tragic circumstances in the French capital at the age of 58.

President Ramaphosa offers his deep condolences to Ambassador Mthethwa’s wife, Ms Philisiwe Buthelezi, and the ambassador’s extended family. The President extends his sympathies to the Ministry and Department of International Relations and Cooperation, and in particular officials in our Embassy in Paris.

The President’s thoughts are also with the extensive network of partners and stakeholders, including the French Presidency and Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs, with whom Ambassador Mthethwa had established strong relationships since his diplomatic appointment in December 2023.

Ambassador Mthethwa served in Cabinet for 15 years in the portfolios of Sport, Arts and Culture; and Police.

President Ramaphosa said: “The untimely passing of Ambassador Nathi Mthethwa is a moment of deep grief in which government and citizens stand beside the Mthethwa family.

“Ambassador Mthethwa has served our nation in diverse capacities during a lifetime that has ended prematurely and traumatically.

“In his last tenure of service he has facilitated the deepening of relations between South and the Republic of France, which has produced benefits for individuals and businesses in both countries and advanced our cooperation in the global arena.

“May his soul rest in peace.”
