SASSA Changes Disability Grant Payment Dates

Payment dates for Older Persons and Disability Grants have been further separated with effect from August 2020 by SASSA. Disability Grants will no longer be paid with Older Persons Grants on the first day of payment (the third day of the month).

In terms of the further staggering of payment dates to be introduced from August 2020, the Older Persons Grant will be paid from 03 August 2020. Disability Grants will be paid from 04 August 2020 and all other grants will be paid from 05 August 2020. Any grants linked to those accounts will be available on the same dates. In terms of this new arrangement, it means disability grants won’t be paid on the same day as the Older Persons Grant.

Earlier this year, SASSA announced the staggering of social grant payments. This is being continued in August to further enforce social distancing and reduce the numbers of people who report to grant access points on any one day. All the social grant access points such as Post Offices and merchants attract a high number of beneficiaries trying to access their money on the same day, which is a risk to especially the aged and those with disabilities.

The government decided that the country remains on level 3 of the lockdown as a precautionary measure to ensure that the spread of the virus is contained and lives are spared. SASSA therefore urges the public to work with government in ensuring that the curve of this virus is flattened by complying with the staggered payment dates.

It is known that our elderly people are the ones who are most vulnerable to the virus and as SASSA we came with strategies to ensure that everyone’s safety is given a preference.

“The staggering of grants started after the lockdown and we should see this as an extension of this process to further limit the number of beneficiaries at payment facilities. The process will be monitored closely and further staggering is not ruled out in the near future, because we need to comply with government protocols of social distancing and washing of hands particularly”; said SASSA CEO, Totsie Memela. “Beneficiaries should remember that they don’t have to withdraw their money on the first payment date but can withdraw it on any day after the payment date as it will remain in the accounts till they withdraw it” she concluded.

OCCUPYING MUNICIPAL LAND ILLEGALLY IS A CRIME

MOKOPANE:The Mogalakwena Local Municipality under the leadership of Her Worship Cllr Andrina Matsemela who is deployed by the African National Congress has taken note of the continuous disturbing spate of illegal stands allocations in Extension 20 (Mokopane) by a group of people under the pretence of being ANC Councilors.

The Mogalakwena Local Municipality is appealing to the citizens to exercise caution and verify with the municipality the legitimacy of the land since it belongs to the municipality for future developments.

The Municipality would like to take this opportunity to put it on record that those who are willing to occupy that land are committing crime and we urge everyone to refrain from purchasing the land/stand as the perpetrators were served with a Court Interdict.

LIMPOPO GRADE R LEARNERS TO RETURN TO SCHOOL ON THE 29 JULY

The Limpopo Department of Education has taken a decision to delay the return of grade R learners to school.

Limpopo Education MEC, Polly Boshielo has after consultation with the Minister of Basic Education, reviewed the reopening date of grade R learners in province.

According to the regulations published in the government gazette of 29 June 2020, grade R learners were to return to school on Monday, 6 July 2020.

The Provincial Department of Education considered various aspects which have led to the new date for the return of grade R learners to be Wednesday, 29 July 2020.

This arrangement does not hinder schools that had already applied and granted to reopen for different grades as per the regulations gazetted and published by the Minister of Basic Education. These regulations allow both public and independent schools to apply for deviation.

"We are working in line with Minister Motshekga's pronouncement that we will adjust the reopening phases based on the risk-adjusted strategy which is a considered attempt to balance our approach to school reopening taking into account all factors that affect the work we do,” said MEC Polly Boshielo.

SAFI STATEMENT: THE ANC MUST LEAVE THE CHIEF JUSTICE ALONE

South African Friends of Israel (SAFI) strongly supports the unbreakable religious and spiritual connection between South African Christians and the Holy Land of Israel, and condemn those who are trying to break that bond. We fully support the right of Chief Justice Mogoeng Mogoeng to express his Christian convictions and support for peace in the Holy Land. We denounce those who are mischievously misinterpreting his message towards their hateful agenda.

The Chief Justice said that South Africa could play a positive role in bringing about peace and that we as South Africans “are denying ourselves a wonderful opportunity of being a game-changer in the Israeli-Palestinian situation”. He went on to say that “the people of South Africa, is an asset we must use around the world to bring peace when there is no peace and to mediate effectively based on rich experience.”

Attacking the Chief Justice for expressing his Christian views is a direct attack on freedom of religion and expression in this country. SAFI objects to this fundamental right being undermined.

The ANC is portrayed as a broad church of differing views. Yet, following its personal attack on the Chief Justice it would seem that it is being hijacked by those with their own foreign policy agenda, such as the BDS movement, who deny Jews and Christians their Biblical connections to Israel. We furthermore see this as an attempt to undermine the independence of the Judiciary according to the South African Constitution.

As Christian South Africans we will not be silenced. We will not tolerate the undermining of our democracy by those with a narrow agenda. We will not have our connection to Israel undermined. We are united in our support of Chief Justice Mogoeng Mogoeng and applaud his convictions to speak out as a Christian believer.

Hands off the Chief Justice. Hands off the Constitution. The ANC must leave Christian believers alone.

"IF AFTER 10 DAYS A CHILD DOESN'T COME TO SCHOOL, WE DEREGISTER THEM" - MOTSHEKGA

Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga has given leeway to parents sceptical about sending their children back to school amid the coronavirus pandemic.

The minister said the department had agreed not to deregister children who have been away from school for 10 days, as stipulated in the law.

"We understand the anxiety of parents and we don't react the same in a time of crisis. It is illegal to keep any child under 15 years away from school. We understand that we are operating in a difficult situation.

"Some parents are really anxious because their children have underlying conditions. Some are playing watch and see. We said we will be patient this time. According to the law if after 10 days a child doesn't come, we assume they are at another place and we deregister them," Motshekga said.
