Crafted by hand // Grateful for clients and stories that allow us to draw & illustrate by hand.

This piece, created for ICLEI Africa’s Smart Energy Solutions for Africa project, showcases the impact of Solar PV technology in sub-Saharan Africa. We’ve illustrated a key insight: Green bonds can mobilise private capital for large-scale solar projects.”

Counting everyone, everywhere // For humanity to progress, we must count and include everyone, in all their diversity. That's the United Nations Population Fund's () message on .

Reliable, representative data are crucial drivers in advancing maternal health, gender equality, and access to reproductive care. But there are still significant gaps, as many communities remain uncounted and unaccounted for.

A staggering 800 women die every day while giving birth, the majority of them in developing countries. Almost every one of those deaths is preventable — if we act in advance, using accurate data.

Are you or your organisation working towards better data collection, improved maternal health, gender equality, or access to reproductive services? We'd love to learn more about your work and the stories you'd like to tell. Book a free storyfinding call: https://calendly.com/stephan-storyground/45-min-meet-up

Wired for wisdom // World Rainforest Day on Saturday reminded us of the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel The Overstory by Richard Powers and the fascinating research that underpins this powerful story.

A few years ago, ecologist Suzanne Simard's research revealed that every forest functions as an interconnected organism with inherent wisdom. Trees are wonderfully social beings that actively exchange nutrients, help each other, and communicate about emerging threats. 🪲🔥

The fungal networks and vegetation that form part of the so-called "understory" transport carbon, filter water, and prevent erosion. It also acts as an intricate communication web. In fact, scientists now know that over 90% of terrestrial plants depend on an age-old alliance with the fungi that thrive among their roots.

But the world's trees and forests are under threat: Rainforests that once covered over 14% of the land on Earth now cover only about 6%. With the theme being "The Year of Action", it's time to urgently help prevent deforestation.

Are you passionate about saving the rainforests that act as our planet's thermostat? Then, let's work together to craft motion that moves people to conserve these precious ecosystems. 🌳🌴

Opioid overdoses are driven by more than just addiction; stigma, discrimination, and lack of access to the proper care set the stage for rising statistics, but those affected aren't numbers on a page. They are loved ones with diverse life stories who leave many chapters unwritten.

Did you know that naloxone has been used as an opioid antidote for over 50 years? This life-saving medication can reverse the effects of an opioid overdose within minutes.

With opioid overdose rates surging worldwide, it's more important than ever to raise awareness about naloxone. That's why we partnered with to craft this important story and create an educational animation about the importance of naloxone treatment in emergency departments.

94% of all life on Earth lives in the ocean. 🐟From the delicate dance of tiny zooplankton to the majestic presence of the giant blue whale, our oceans are home to an incredible diversity of species.

On this , let's celebrate the ocean's vital role in our lives and the life it sustains. The ocean is a haven for marine life and a crucial ally in the fight against climate change. It absorbs vast amounts of CO2, helping to regulate our planet's temperature.

However, the ocean is facing a growing threat from plastic pollution. Every year, 8 million metric tons of plastics, mostly single-use items like bottles and wrappers, end up in the sea. This plastic can take hundreds of years to break down and poses a serious danger to marine animals.

On this special day, we remember our responsibility to protect the amazing creatures that call the ocean home. Together, we can reduce plastic waste, make more sustainable choices, and keep our oceans healthy for future generations!

Stories need time to 🌿 grow //

As we craft the final scenes of this story, we want to share a glimpse of what happens behind the scenes at Storyground.

Reading and re-reading a script while drawing scamps is critical to our storytelling process. It allows ideas to flow and the story to grow before getting stuck behind a screen.

We are grateful for our partnership with the Canadian Mental Health Association & Health Authority, which has allowed us the time and care to craft this project.

We can't wait to share this story with you!

Find beauty in things imperfect //

What do frame-by-frame animation and the Japanese philosophy of wabi-sabi have in common?

Celebrating the beauty of imperfection – whether that's reusing a cracked cup in a traditional Japanese tea ceremony or showing tea being poured into a wobbly, hand-drawn animated cup.

Wabi-sabi is once again highly relevant in a world where AI, computer-generated everything and polished social media posts are the norm. Right now, we collectively crave imperfection, rawness and realness – signs of our humanity.

In response to this trend, Storyground is exploring the traditional art of frame-by-frame animation in some of our projects. A nod to wabi-sabi, the tea ritual shown here reflects the intricate animation process and the animator's perfectly imperfect creative journey.

A new story takes shape //

This video provides a sneak peek into our creative process, showing the journey from rough scamps to polished illustrations for animation. Watch as animator Jessie George's skilled hand brings the character to life, one frame at a time.

We're excited to once again partner with Interior Health on a mental health-focused initiative that aligns with their mission of providing top-quality healthcare services in the southern interior of British Columbia, Canada.
