🚨 TRUCK CARRYING EXPLOSIVES OVERTURNS ON N2 NEAR KNYSNA 🚨

Two lives were tragically lost when a truck loaded with explosives overturned on the N2 outside Knysna yesterday. Firefighters acted quickly to prevent a major explosion as the containers began heating up.

Thanks to a massive overnight operation, the road has been cleared and two-way traffic is back to normal.

George’s R5 Billion Budget: Growth, Stability & Support

Mayor Jackie von Brandis has unveiled George’s draft budget for 2025/26, with a total of nearly R5 billion allocated to infrastructure, economic growth, and social support.

🔹 R492 million for water security 💧
🔹 R24.5 million to upgrade Gwaiing Wastewater Treatment Works
🔹 R52.2 million for Schaapkop Electrical Substation ⚡
🔹 R250.3 million for GO GEORGE transport 🚍
🔹 R63.9 million secured in grant funding

Key changes include an expanded indigent support policy and a new sliding scale for debt recovery, ensuring no more electricity blocking for struggling residents.

⛽ Fuel Price Drop Coming in April! 🚗💨

Good news for South African motorists! Fuel prices are expected to drop significantly in April 2025, with petrol and diesel seeing major reductions. 📉

📌 Expected decreases:
🔹 Petrol 93: ⬇️ 82c per litre
🔹 Petrol 95: ⬇️ 96c per litre
🔹 Diesel 0.05%: ⬇️ 90c per litre

This drop is thanks to a stronger rand and lower oil prices, but a 3c/litre carbon tax increase will slightly offset the savings. The final fuel prices will be confirmed at the end of March. 🚦

🚨 Police Officer Arrested for Corruption & Drug Dealing in George 🚨

A 34-year-old police constable stationed at the George Magistrate’s Court has been arrested by the Hawks on charges of corruption and drug dealing.

According to Lt. Col. Siyabulela Vukubi, the officer allegedly accepted money to smuggle drugs into court cells for prisoners. During the arrest, authorities seized mandrax, cannabis, and cash, believed to be linked to the illegal activities.

The suspect is set to appear in court on Tuesday, March 25, 2025.

Eskom Implements Stage 2 Loadshedding Amid Generation Unit Losses.

Eskom has announced the implementation of Stage 2 loadshedding starting at 18:25 on Wednesday, 19 March 2025, following the unexpected loss of five generation units ahead of the evening peak period.

In a media statement, Eskom said:
"While we have made notable progress in our generation recovery efforts, Eskom faced the loss of five generation units before the peak period. Consequently, Stage 2 loadshedding was implemented at 18:25 and will remain in effect until 5:00 tomorrow."

Schedule for George:
- Wednesday 19 March: 22:00 - 00:30
- Thursday 20 March: None

Eskom reassured the public that planned maintenance remains a priority to improve system reliability, especially in preparation for the winter months. However, due to ongoing system constraints, the power utility urged South Africans to use electricity sparingly.
