🌟 A Network of Heroes 🌟

Sometimes we underestimate how powerful a network of like-minded, compassionate people can be. 💛💙

At our recent Lions meeting, a guest shared the story of little Leanne (4), who has been diagnosed with Stage 2 Sertoli-Leydig – a very rare and aggressive cancer. The financial burden of getting Leanne from George to Cape Town for treatment was overwhelming her family.

💛 The Eden Lions Club reached out to Wings and Wishes, who immediately stepped in to arrange flights for Leanne and her mom, Nicolene.

💙When we learned that they have no accommodation for the three days of treatment next week, Eden Lions Club George reached out to Lion Freda Dodd in Cape Town, and she immediately contacted CHOC Childhood Cancer Foundation SA, and accommodation, meals, and transport were secured.

This is the power of Lions. We are connected globally. Where there is a need, there is a Lion.

A vast network of caring hearts, connected by service, strengthened by partnerships with volunteers, organisations, sponsors, and donors. Together, we are stronger. Together, we give hope.

This Women's Month, we're celebrating the incredible women in service.

From the front lines of healthcare and law enforcement to the crucial work of military personnel and public service workers, women play a vital and often overlooked role in keeping our communities safe, healthy, and strong.

But service goes even further. We also want to honor the selfless contributions of women in volunteer organizations like our very own Lions Club International, foster moms who open their hearts and homes, stepmoms who provide unwavering support, and countless others who dedicate their time and energy to helping those around them.

To all the women who serve, in every capacity—thank you. Your strength, dedication, and compassion make the world a better place.

When our community faces its darkest hours, heroes emerge. Here in the Garden Route, many of those heroes wear the vest of the Eden and George Lions Clubs. 🦁

From the recent, tragic George building collapse (2024) to the devastating flash floods (2021), the George fires (2019), and the unforgettable Knysna fires (2017), these dedicated volunteers have been on the front lines, providing immediate aid and unwavering support.

They are the ones sorting donations, providing warm meals, and offering a shoulder to lean on when it's needed most. They prove that for Lions, community service isn't just an occasional act—it's a way of life.

For Lions Clubs in George, Eden, and across the globe, every single day is Humanitarian Day.

A heartfelt THANK YOU to every member for your selfless service. Our community is stronger because of you. 🙏

Today, we honour the courageous humanitarian workers who risk everything — and sometimes give their lives — to save others in times of disaster and conflict. 🕊🔥

This year’s theme, “Strengthening Global Solidarity and Empowering Local Communities,” calls on us to stand united as a global family, while recognising the strength, leadership, and resilience of local communities in shaping their own futures.

Humanitarian work is not only about providing aid — it is about partnership, dignity, and empowerment.

A child's potential is limitless, but they can't learn on an empty stomach.

Eden Lions Club George is passionate about nourishing the next generation through our feeding programs, which provide essential meals and porridge to young children.

Our efforts are stronger with the help of organizations like Rise Against Hunger and Heartfelt Foods.

Today, Eden Lions Club George and George Lions Club joined forces to share love in action — serving 200 bowls of hearty soup + fresh sandwiches to those who needed it most.🍲

Last night was a night to remember — a room filled with Lions, family, and friends who have walked beside us, cheered us on, and rolled up their sleeves to serve with us. 💙💛❤️

From our very first project in 2009 to the countless lives touched since, every step of this journey has been possible because of you — the people who believe in what we do and the hearts that beat in rhythm with “We Serve.”

Sixteen years of service, guided by one vision: to make a tangible difference in the lives of others. Today, we celebrate our 16th Charter Anniversary with immense joy and gratitude!

From the front lines of disaster relief to the quiet, determined fight against childhood cancer, our journey has been one of unwavering commitment. Together, we have worked to alleviate hunger, provided vital diabetes screenings, and helped secure the gift of sight through our vision programs. Our dedication extends to our planet, with every project aimed at creating a positive environmental impact.

This incredible journey is not ours alone. To every volunteer, partner, and community member who has stood with us: thank you. Your support turns our vision into reality.
