(1)

Following the perceptible need for an isiXhosa community newspaper, written specifically for the benefit of the isiXhosa speaking people, within the Western and Eastern Cape provinces, Dizindaba launched in November 2010. Initially the paper started circulating in the Western Cape but plans are in place to circulate in the Eastern Cape. The word Dizindaba means ‘news reveal’ – with this in mind, t

he community paper aims to bring news and general developments to the isiXhosa speaking people within the Western and Eastern Cape areas, while encouraging them to read more and engage in debates that will contribute to the development of their communities. Dizindaba’s content is divided into four segments, namely community and social news; economic news; political news; and sports, and highlights to its target audience the different social, political and economic issues that affect them as citizens. Dizindaba is distributed via main stream and spaza shops in the townships and informal settlements, as well as by means of the publications in-house distributors strategically positioned at taxi and bus ranks, train stations and shopping malls. Dizindaba is published by Dizindaba Media (Pty) Ltd. For more information, contact Anetta Mangxaba on 071 2123675 / 0842639105 / 0632486129, or email [email protected] or [email protected]

Western Cape Mobility Department urges truck drivers to comply with Bain’s Kloof Pass height restrictions

In the past two months, seven heavy motor vehicles have become stuck on Bain’s Kloof Pass, disrupting traffic and endangering other road users. The pass has a strict height limit of 3.68 metres, which must be respected. Removing stuck trucks can take up to five hours, further delaying travel. The Department is calling on freight operators and drivers to use alternative routes — R44 (Wellington/Hermon) or the Huguenot Tunnel (N1) — and to obey signage to keep everyone safe. Enforcement teams will continue to monitor and act against non-compliance.
