COGTA MEC WELCOMES THE DECISION BY THE EAST LONDON HIGH COURT TO SET ASIDE THE APPOINTMENT OF THE AMATHOLE MUNICIPAL MANAGER

COGTA MEC Xolile Nqatha welcomes the East London High Courts' decision to set aside the appointment of Mr Thandekile Mnyimba as the Amathole Municipal Manager.

This is after the labour unions in the Amathole District Municipality took the matter to court challenging the appointment of Mr Mnyimba as the Municipal Manager.

The East London High Court has also declared invalid any contract of employment concluded between the Municipality and Mr Mnyimba.

COGTA MEC Xolile Nqatha: “I wish to welcome the judgement as I remain convinced that if due process is not followed, anyone is bound to fail the test of legality and therefore any other effort without proof of evidence is dead on arrival.”

MEC Nqatha said he has been vindicated by the judgment of the East London High Court as he firmly believes in rule of law and due process that must be followed at all times.

EAST LONDON(Senary Park)

The SAPS in the Eastern Cape confirms that about seventeen(17) young adults/children aged between 18 and 20 were found dead inside a Local Tarven at Scenery Park, in East London this morning.

The incident was reported to the police in the early hours of Sunday morning 26 June 2022 at around 4am by members of the community.

The circumstances surrounding the incident are currently under investigation. The Police department in the Eastern Cape stated that they do not want to make speculations regarding the cause of the incident as that may risk jeopardising the sensitive investigation that is underway.

Latest developments at midday suggested that about 20 children have now been confirmed dead. The number has therefore risen from 17 to 20. An additional two was earlier rushed to a nearby Clinic whilst one died at the hospital.

Seven (7) of the confirmed deaths are famales and thirteen (13) are males. Inquest dockets have been registered for further investigation.

This is a developing story….
