It’s swarming time for our ladies 🐝🐝🐝

A brood box ready with wax sheets to go into the garden didn’t quite make it there in time.

The scouts were out early this morning checking the box and and then this just happened 🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝

Another hive for our homestead 💃💃💃

Such excitement 🙏🙏🙏

When life gives you yellow pear tomatoes . . .

Make Tomato Chilli Jam with Basil, Ginger and Garlic, a delicious accompaniment to your cheeseboard or harvest table.

So blessed to be given 5 kg of yellow pear tomatoes from a generous farmer from East London via The Pink Lady here in Morgan Bay.

It’s that time of the year when my garden takes a back seat and it’s time to our stock up the shelves for the upcoming season.

Life is about being adaptable and going with the flow so time to experiment with some new products and be inventive with whatever comes my way.

With Christmas just around the corner, why not make your own presents this year or support your local farmers’ markets and small home industries like us instead of big business.

There is still time to create a colourful summer garden to encourage biodiversity and a perfect ecosystem for all creatures great and small.

If you haven’t done so as yet, I can highly recommend buying seedlings from your local nursery or do as I do and scatter packet seed to create a meadow style, kaleidoscope of colour.

have a wonderful range to create a perfect pollinators garden.

Towards the end of the flowering season, leave to go to seed, collect and store for the next season and then “ chop and drop “ the spent plants .

Saves money, creates mulch and very soon you will have a low maintenance flower garden which keeps on giving.

Early Monday morning harvest after 5 days of extreme fluctuations in the weather.

Thursday was a classic example of how no matter how much effort one’s puts in, the success of a garden is determined more by the natural order of things, than by trying to control what is .

I thought I would have one last try at planting early this spring to get some food before the heat, humidity and rains set in. Bad move and waste of time and effort.

A valuable lesson which can apply to one’s life too. Sometimes it’s best to let things just be instead of trying to change or control the outcome.

Freak temperatures of between 38 and a maximum of 42 plus gale force hot, berg winds had a devastating effect on the veggie garden ( and the rest of the garden ) as seen in the photos.

Even the beautiful rain on Saturday night and most of yesterday cannot rectify the damage.

What now ?

🍃Harvest what I can
🍃Clean and clear the beds
🍃Mulch and manure
🍃Stop trying to grow food at this time of the year in the Eastern Cape when the weather is unpredictable
🍃Celebrate the wins, learn from the loses
🍃Accept the things one cannot change
