Chippa United Football Club BOSS PROVIDES A SHELTER TO THOSE IN NEED

Following Chippa United FC’s thrilling encounter against Orlando Pirates, though suffering Home Loss, Chairman of Chippa United Siviwe Chippa Mpengesi turned his focus to a cause that transcends football—providing shelter to those in need.

In partnership with the Eastern Cape Department of Human Settlements, Mpengesi officially handed over a fully furnished home to the Benelwa family in KwaNobuhle, Uitenhage, who tragically lost their previous home to a fire. The ceremony was attended by Eastern Cape MEC for Human Settlements, Siphokazi Mani-Lusithi, highlighting the significance of this initiative.

In a statement released by the club, the project was inspired by the Eastern Cape Human Settlement Department that brought the Benelwa family’s plight to national attention. Moved by their story, The Chairman swiftly mobilized Chippa Holdings sub company SQT Civil to rebuild their home, ensuring they not only have a roof over their heads but a dignified place to call home.

Mpengesi said “Football results changes every week, but putting a roof over a family’s head is permanent,

Having personally experienced life in an informal settlement, Mpengesi remains committed to using his success to uplift communities. Through Chippa Holdings and Chippa United FC, Mpengesi continues to champion initiatives that provide housing, educational support, and youth development opportunities not just in the Eastern Cape, but SA as a whole.

The Northern Cape Department of Education has this morning announced the successful disbursement of R100 million to schools as part of the norms and standard allocations. These funds are said to have been allocated for essential needs, including Learning and Teaching Support Materials, municipal services, special schools, hostel subsidies, Early Childhood Development (ECD) centres and learner transport.

A total of R22 million has been paid directly to municipalities across the province to assist schools struggling to cover their municipal service costs. This intervention was crucial in preventing electricity disconnections at schools, which could have negatively impacted their operations.

Although there remains a shortfall in the funding provided, The department says it's happy to report that schools are continuing to operate smoothly without any disruptions. The Department is in ongoing communication with the Provincial Treasury to ensure the timely disbursement of funds to schools in the new financial year.

With this matter now resolved, the department has urged all stakeholders and partners in education to unite in am efforts to improve learner outcomes and the overall quality of education.
