Kyokushin karate is a full-contact martial art that was founded by Masutatsu Oyama in the mid-20th century. It is known for its rigorous training methods, emphasis on discipline and mental strength, and its use of full-contact sparring.
Full Contact: Kyokushin karate is renowned for its full-contact sparring, where practitioners use a wide range of strikes, punches, kicks, knees, and elbows. This type of training is meant to prepare students for real-life combat situations and test their physical and mental resilience.
Knockdowns: In competition, Kyokushin karate utilizes a knockdown style, where fighters aim to deliver powerful strikes in order to knock their opponents down. Knockouts are not uncommon in this style of karate.
Kata: Kata, or predetermined forms, play a significant role in Kyokushin karate. These sequences of movements are practiced to develop proper technique, balance, and body movement. It also helps in developing mental focus and concentration skills.
