Day 10 – Hunt Academy 🎯

Today marked the final day… and what a moment it was! Ten days of early mornings, late nights, lectures, practicals, challenges, pressure, and constant learning all came together. All the hard work has finally paid off.

We are incredibly proud to share that Beulah Smit finished the full 10-day Hunting Academy course with fantastic results! 🌟

From Day 1 she showed determination, resilience, and passion — pushing through every subject, every practical, and every test with heart. Watching her grow in confidence and skill throughout this journey has been inspiring to say the least.

Well done, Beulah! You’ve proven once again that when you set your mind to something, you crush it. 💪🔥

Day 9 at Hunt Academy 🎯
Today marked the final day of practicals, and the pressure was on! From the very start of Hunt Academy, the students have been grinding, learning, and sharpening their skills — and today was the moment to put all of that to the test.

The morning kicked off with Trophy Estimation, a skill they’ve been practicing since Day 1. You could feel the nerves in the air as each student stepped up, relying on everything they’ve learnt over the past week. Some confident, some cautious… but all giving it their absolute best.

They wrapped up the day with Shot Placement, one of the most critical parts of ethical and effective hunting. Accuracy, decision-making, and understanding animal anatomy all came together in this final practical session.

Now all eyes are on tomorrow — the big day.

Day 8 at Hunt Academy 🎯

The morning 🌅 kicked off with one of the most exciting practical sessions yet — the shooting lesson.
Students stepped up to the line to show off their accuracy with 100m grouping shots, and the concentration was next-level. From there, it was all about pressure and pace with speed shooting at 10m, 20m, and 30m — all in just 15 seconds. The energy on the range was unreal!

Then it was time for the next practical: Trophy Measurement Methods. The nerves definitely kicked in here as everyone tried to apply their knowledge with precision.

And of course… the final practical of the day came with that legendary moment every student knows too well —
when David gives you that look… and suddenly you’re not sure if you were right at all! 😂

Tomorrow is the last day of practicals before the big tests, and the excitement (and butterflies) are starting to build.

Day 7 at Hunt Academy

Day 7 wrapped up another unforgettable chapter here at Hunt Academy! 🌿🦌

The morning kicked off with some incredible sightseeing and spoor tracking. The students were out early, soaking in the bushveld while sharpening one of the most essential skills in the field — reading the land. From identifying tracks to understanding movement patterns, the team is truly levelling up. They also spent time learning key tree species, an often-overlooked but vital part of understanding any ecosystem.

After that, the students headed into their next challenge: a practical assessment on Bore Sighting. Nerves kicked in, but the progress from Day 1 to now is unbelievable. Confidence is rising, skill is sharpening — exactly what Hunt Academy is all about.

To end off the day, everyone gathered together for an educational session featuring slides of animals and birds. A perfect way to reinforce species identification and broaden their understanding of the wildlife they’ll encounter as future professionals.

Day 6 at Hunt Academy

The students were up before sunrise this morning, ready for what turned into one of the most exciting days so far. The first session kicked off with Trophy Estimation, an essential skill for any aspiring PH, and the group truly showed how far they’ve come in just a few days.

Right at 08:00, the focus shifted to a subject many were looking forward to — Bowhunting. From understanding equipment to shot placement and ethics, the session was packed with the kind of knowledge that separates good hunters from great ones.

Then came the moment everyone was a bit nervous about… practical evaluations. But nerves quickly turned into confidence as each student stepped up and proved just how much they’ve learned. David and his team were incredibly proud of their progress.

After a full morning, the afternoon offered some well-earned downtime. We found a beautiful dam and spent the rest of the day fishing, laughing, and soaking in the quiet beauty of the bush. The perfect way to unwind and reflect.

Day 5 at Hunt Academy 🦌📚

Today the students stepped into one of the most crucial parts of their training journey. The morning kicked off with an in-depth session on CITES — understanding how international regulations work, why they exist, and how they protect our wildlife. It was an eye-opening discussion that gave everyone a deeper appreciation for ethical, responsible hunting.

From there, David took over with a powerful lecture on shot placement. His experience and insights gave the students a clearer picture of how to make ethical decisions in the field, ensuring clean and effective shots.

After a well-deserved lunch break, it was time to get hands-on… literally. The students’ caping skills were put to the test, and they quickly learned that patience, precision, and respect for the animal are key. This practical assessment truly showed how far they’ve come since Day 1.

Each day at Hunt Academy brings its own challenges — and its own victories. These students are growing in knowledge, skill, and confidence, ready to take on what tomorrow brings.

Day 4 at Hunt Academy 🏹📚

Another early start for the students as they kicked off their morning with scenario questions once again — sharpening their minds before sharpening any blades. These exercises are becoming a real eye-opener, pushing everyone to think like true Professional Hunters.

From there, David took over the day and poured decades of hard-earned experience into the class. Hunting Techniques and Hunting Methods were the main focus, but he didn’t stop there.
He also tested the students’ knowledge in spoor identification, guiding them through the key signs, shapes, and markers that help identify different species purely by their tracks. For many, it was a whole new level of awareness in the bush.

And now… the excitement builds.

Tomorrow they put their knowledge to the test with caping.
The pressure is on, but the passion is even stronger. Each day they get one step closer to exam day — and one step closer to becoming the hunters they dream of being.

Learning. Growing. Becoming better.

Day 3 at Hunt Academy 🏹📚

Another day of growth, learning, and levelling up!

The morning kicked off just like yesterday — straight into Trophy Estimation. The students are sharpening their eyes and building confidence with every session. You can truly see the progress as they compare notes, angles, and field-judging techniques.

From there, things shifted into a fun and interactive exercise as the students tested their knowledge of the Law. They threw scenario-based questions at each other, challenging one another to think like responsible Professional Hunters. It was eye-opening, and for many, a reminder of just how critical legal understanding is in our industry.

The afternoon brought something special.
David Sutherland stepped in to share his expertise on taking Trophy Photos — one of the most underrated yet vital skills for any PH. From positioning your client to framing the animal with respect, light, angles, and ethical presentation… the students soaked up every tip.

To wrap up the day, everyone gathered for the results of yesterday’s Trophy Measurement assessment. Some big smiles… some lessons learned… but most importantly, growth all around.

Another day closer to becoming professionals who can uphold the standards, ethics, and excellence this industry demands.

Day 2 at Hunt Academy 🦌📚

The sun wasn’t even up yet when Day 2 kicked off with an early horn judging session. Coffee in hand, the students gathered around the trophies and immediately got to work, sharpening their eyes and learning the fine details that separate a good judge from a great PH.

From there, the pressure climbed as the students faced their next challenge — a round of Law questions. This certainly tested their knowledge, and for many, it was a moment of realisation just how crucial the legal side of our industry truly is.

As the day progressed, confidence grew. The afternoon wrapped up with their first practical: Horn Measurement. Tape measures out, heads down, and focus switched on. You could see the excitement mixed with nerves, but every student pushed through and walked away with new skills under the belt.

Every day here is about learning, growing, and preparing to be the best on exam day — and today was no different.

Day 1 at Hunt Academy– Off to a Powerful Start

The first morning at Hunt Academy kicked off the way every good day in the bush should… with hot coffee, a good rusk, and a group of eager students ready to learn. ☕️🌄

From there, the pace picked up fast. The first lecture of the day was Law — and for many of the students, it was a real eye opener. Understanding the legal side of hunting is absolutely crucial, and today gave everyone a new level of respect for the responsibility that comes with being out in the field.

After lunch, the momentum continued as the class jumped into Ballistics and Horn Judging. This is where things got competitive! The students had their first go at judging horns, and let’s just say… the sports have officially started. 🔎📏

Day 1 set the tone perfectly — learning, growing, and sharpening skills that will make all the difference come exam day. Every session, every question, every debate… it all leads to becoming better hunters and better ambassadors of the wildlife we’re privileged to pursue.
